{"id":176780,"date":"2022-04-13T06:43:45","date_gmt":"2022-04-13T05:43:45","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/?p=176780"},"modified":"2022-04-13T06:43:45","modified_gmt":"2022-04-13T05:43:45","slug":"fg-pharcourt-refinery-to-produce-60000-barrels-day-early-2023","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/2022\/04\/13\/fg-pharcourt-refinery-to-produce-60000-barrels-day-early-2023\/","title":{"rendered":"FG: P&#8217;Harcourt refinery to produce 60,000 barrels\/day early 2023"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Chief Timipre Sylva, the Minister of State for Petroleum Resources has stated that the\u00a0April 2023 completion date for the rehabilitation of the Port Harcourt refinery was feasible and that the plant would refine 60,000 barrels of crude by early next year.<\/p>\n<p>This was stated by the minister while speaking on the state of repairs of the facility, which was projected to gulp $1.5bn.<\/p>\n<p>The minister expressed satisfaction at the level of work.<\/p>\n<p>Sylva stated this while answering questions from newsmen shortly after a tour of the Port Harcourt Refining Company\u2019 in Eleme, Rivers State on Tuesday.<\/p>\n<p>He said, \u201cThis project kicked off second quarter last year and where they are now is quite impressive. It is on schedule.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe commitment is to deliver 60, 000 barrels per day from this refinery by first quarter of next year, and, of course, we are quite happy.<\/p>\n<p>The minister also vowed that the Federal Government would put an end to all forms of illegal oil bunkering going on in the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/2022\/04\/11\/2023-resign-to-avoid-legal-issues-over-section-84-12-niger-delta-group-tells-amaechi\/\">Niger Delta<\/a>, saying such criminal activities must not be legalised.<\/p>\n<p>Sylva said the modular refinery programme of the Federal Government was on course and urged people to take advantage of the programme.<\/p>\n<p>He, however, said modular refinery should be separated from the illegal oil refining going on in the Niger Delta resulting in the soot pandemic in Port Harcourt and its environs.<\/p>\n<p>He said the President, Major General Muhammadu Buhari (retd.), had inaugurated a modular refinery in Imo State last year, adding that similar projects were currently ongoing in other parts of the country, including Rivers State.<\/p>\n<p>Sylva said, \u201cWhen people begin to equate modular refinery with the criminality that is going, I think they don\u2019t go together.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe criminality should be taken on. What is going on in Port Harcourt and some of these areas causing problem is a criminal activity and we cannot legalise that criminal activity.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe must stop that activity by law enforcement and that has started.
