{"id":177597,"date":"2022-04-14T16:14:37","date_gmt":"2022-04-14T15:14:37","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/?p=177597"},"modified":"2022-04-14T16:14:37","modified_gmt":"2022-04-14T15:14:37","slug":"nrc-get-your-nin-ready-to-board-trains-from-may","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/2022\/04\/14\/nrc-get-your-nin-ready-to-board-trains-from-may\/","title":{"rendered":"NRC: Get your NIN ready to board trains from May"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Mr Fidet Okhiria, the Managing Director of the Nigerian Railway Corporation haa stated that\u00a0Nigerians intending to travel by rail should get their National Identity Number ready as it would be a requirement from May 2022.<\/p>\n<p>This was disclosed on Thursday by the commission in Abuja.<\/p>\n<p>According to the commission,\u00a0the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/2022\/04\/13\/2023-anyim-warns-pdp-not-to-jettison-zoning\/\">NIN<\/a> would be needed to enhance the profiling of passengers, which he said would also enhance the safety and security of rail users.<\/p>\n<p>This move may not be unconnected to the recent terror attack on an Abuja-Kaduna bound train, where many passengers were killed and injured, with hundreds yet displaced \u2013 purportedly abducted by the yet-unidentified suspected terrorists.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe process of linking passengers to their NIN for improved profiling is ongoing. This layer of passenger screening will commence by May.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe Abuja-Kaduna Train Service will resume as soon as possible with additional security measures put in place,\u2019\u2019 Okhiria stated.<\/p>\n<p>The NRC suspended the Abuja-Kaduna route following a March 28 daring attack by assailants, who injured passengers and kidnapped many.<\/p>\n<p>Okhiria said the security agencies were working tirelessly to ensure the rescue and release of all abductees, noting that 362 passengers and 20 crew members were aboard the train when it was plundered.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhile we continue to sympathise with families of those who lost or have not seen their loved ones, we encourage anyone still looking for a loved one to please call us.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe numbers to call are\u00a0<strong>08033546208, 08060044600 and 07066700150.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe corporation will continue to update the general public of the latest developments,\u2019\u2019 he stated.<\/p>\n<p>Okhiria added that as part of security measures in forestalling future occurrences, the NRC had re-railed the last rolling stock affected in the attack.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis means that all the 14 de-railed rolling stock (11 coaches, two rescue coaches and one locomotive engine on the rescue train) have all been re-railed \u2013 from the incident site to our stations at Idu, Abuja and Rigasa, Kaduna.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIntensive track repair work continues at the site.
