{"id":178358,"date":"2022-04-16T05:05:55","date_gmt":"2022-04-16T04:05:55","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/?p=178358"},"modified":"2022-04-16T05:05:55","modified_gmt":"2022-04-16T04:05:55","slug":"i-keep-my-distance-from-judiciary-to-avoid-perception-of-interference-says-buhari","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/2022\/04\/16\/i-keep-my-distance-from-judiciary-to-avoid-perception-of-interference-says-buhari\/","title":{"rendered":"I keep my distance from judiciary to avoid perception of interference, says Buhari"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Nigeria&#8217;s President Muhammadu Buhari has disclosed that he does his best to avoid interacting with judges in order to avoid the assumption that he interferes with judiciary matters.<\/p>\n<p class=\"caps\">This was made known by the president at\u00a0an iftar he organised for the leadership of the judiciary on Thursday evening.<\/p>\n<p>According to a statement by Garba Shehu, presidential spokesman, Buhari also reassured the judges that the executive arm of the government will continue to respect the judiciary within the boundaries laid out in the constitution in order to strengthen the country\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/2022\/04\/13\/2023-atiku-lauds-youth-foray-into-politics-says-it-strengthens-nigerias-democracy\/\">democracy<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI assure you that I have tremendous respect for the judiciary. Order and discipline can only be established when the law applies to all, irrespective of position or status, who you are or who you like and without fear or favour,\u201d he was quoted as saying.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI try to keep my distance from you to avoid the perception of interference.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>According to the statement, Ibrahim Muhammad, chief justice of Nigeria (CJN), said Buhari has never asked a favour from the judiciary.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIn all your years in office, at no time, no moment did Mr. President or any other person from you attempt to talk or ask for favours from the courts,\u201d he was quoted as saying.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe can recall no such attempt by you or anyone on your side to interfere with judicial decisions.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis is a mark of your maturity and sagacity.
