{"id":179170,"date":"2022-04-18T05:55:10","date_gmt":"2022-04-18T04:55:10","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/?p=179170"},"modified":"2022-04-18T05:55:10","modified_gmt":"2022-04-18T04:55:10","slug":"bricklayer-declared-missing-after-he-visited-alfa-for-divination-in-kogi","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/2022\/04\/18\/bricklayer-declared-missing-after-he-visited-alfa-for-divination-in-kogi\/","title":{"rendered":"Bricklayer declared missing after he visited \u2018Alfa\u2019 for divination in Kogi"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>A bricklayer, Samond Akeju Ogunrinde, has been reported missing after he left Ekiti state to visit an alfa (Islamic cleric) identified as Olaitan Apelu for divination at Iyara in Ijumu LGA of Kogi State.<\/p>\n<p>The 36-year-old father of two, hails from Iwoye-Ketu in Ogun State, but lives in Ekiti State with his wife and children.<\/p>\n<p>According to Daily Trust, his elder brother, Muideen in Abeokuta said that he had informed the family of his arrival at the alfa\u2019s residence on March 25 with the assurance of returning to his base the same day.<\/p>\n<p>He said the family members were shocked when the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/2021\/03\/21\/herbalist-bricklayer-kill-housewife-son-for-money-ritual-in-ogun\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">bricklayer<\/a> could not be reached on phone for hours, which rolled into days and weeks.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhen we contacted alfa to ask about our brother\u2019s whereabouts, we were surprised to hear him say that our brother did not come to his house. The matter was immediately reported to the police at Iyara Divisional Headquarters,\u201d the elder brother said.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_179181\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-179181\" style=\"width: 800px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-179181\" src=\"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/5\/2022\/04\/kunlenet07\/2022\/04\/18\/Samond-Akeju-Ogunrinde-2.jpeg\" alt=\"\" width=\"800\" height=\"1068\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/5\/2022\/04\/kunlenet07\/2022\/04\/18\/Samond-Akeju-Ogunrinde-2.jpeg 800w, https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/5\/2022\/04\/kunlenet07\/2022\/04\/18\/Samond-Akeju-Ogunrinde-2-225x300.jpeg 225w, https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/5\/2022\/04\/kunlenet07\/2022\/04\/18\/Samond-Akeju-Ogunrinde-2-767x1024.jpeg 767w, https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/5\/2022\/04\/kunlenet07\/2022\/04\/18\/Samond-Akeju-Ogunrinde-2-768x1025.jpeg 768w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 800px) 100vw, 800px\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-179181\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Samond Akeju Ogunrinde<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Muideen explained that when the police stormed his residence, the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/2022\/02\/08\/how-prophets-alfas-and-herbalists-engage-in-money-rituals-before-extremists-take-over\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">alfa<\/a> had taken to his heels, but the operatives arrested his father.<\/p>\n<p>The elder brother said operatives later arrested him, and found the mobile phone of the victim in his possession, yet the suspect denied knowing of the bricklayer\u2019s whereabouts.<\/p>\n<p>The family\u2019s lawyer, Amos Oghinan, said that the suspect had been transferred to the state headquarters in Lokoja, saying the suspect remained adamant.<\/p>\n<p>Oghinan expressed worry about the police\u2019s delay in charging the suspect to court.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAlready, the alfa is overstaying his visit to the police headquarters, any human rights organisation can complain about unlawful and long detention.
