{"id":183048,"date":"2022-04-26T11:49:26","date_gmt":"2022-04-26T10:49:26","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/?p=183048"},"modified":"2022-04-26T11:49:26","modified_gmt":"2022-04-26T10:49:26","slug":"nba-bemoans-lack-of-financial-autonomy-for-judiciary","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/2022\/04\/26\/nba-bemoans-lack-of-financial-autonomy-for-judiciary\/","title":{"rendered":"NBA bemoans lack of financial autonomy for judiciary"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The Nigeria Bar Association (NBA), Ado Ekiti Branch, says lack of financial autonomy for judiciary in the state is dangerous for dispensation of justice.<\/p>\n<p>The union said it was unfortunate things have not changed despite strikes embarked upon by the Judiciary Staff Union of Nigeria (JUSUN).<\/p>\n<p>The branch Chairman, Adeyemi Adewumi, expressed the dissatisfaction in Ado Ekiti, yesterday, at the commencement of the Law Week 2022 with the theme, \u201cJudicial independence, a recipe for true democracy in Nigeria.\u201d\u2019<\/p>\n<p>He said it was wrong for the executive to be the appointing authority for the judges and magistrates.<\/p>\n<p>Adewumi noted that the practice had continued to erode the independence of the judiciary because \u201che who pays the piper dictates the tune.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>He said, \u201cWe had seen a situation here in Ekiti State where <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/2021\/12\/17\/njc-recommends-appointment-of-64-judges-full-list\/\">NJC<\/a><\/strong> recommended judges for appointments and the executive stopped it and it took the coming of another government and NBA\u2019s intervention to get it done.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cJudiciary will never be functional and independent as long as the executive ratifies their appointments and release funds for their operations.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Adewumi said the essence of the theme was to chart the way forward on ways and means to ensure true judicial independence.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The Nigeria Bar Association (NBA), Ado Ekiti Branch, says lack of financial autonomy for judiciary in the state is dangerous for dispensation of justice.
