{"id":183416,"date":"2022-04-27T16:30:25","date_gmt":"2022-04-27T15:30:25","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/?p=183416"},"modified":"2022-04-27T16:30:25","modified_gmt":"2022-04-27T15:30:25","slug":"nigerian-extradited-to-us-over-148000-wire-fraud","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/2022\/04\/27\/nigerian-extradited-to-us-over-148000-wire-fraud\/","title":{"rendered":"Nigerian extradited to US over $148,000 wire fraud"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>A Nigerian, Adedunmola Gbadegesin, has been extradited to the United States to face criminal charges.<\/p>\n<p>The defendant is wanted for alleged wire fraud, romance scam and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/2022\/04\/26\/real-estate-second-most-vulnerable-sector-to-money-laundering-efcc\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">money laundering<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>The offences contravene Title 18, US Code, Section 1349 and 1956 (h) and carry a maximum jail term of 20 years.<\/p>\n<p>Gbadegesin\u2019s extradition was coordinated by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) after a request from the Attorney General\u2019s office.<\/p>\n<p>The action followed a February 11, 2022 Order by Justice D. E. Osiagor of the Federal High Court, Lagos, in Suit No. FHC\/L\/CS\/765\/21.<\/p>\n<p>The judge granted a request to send the defendant, arrested on September 2, 2021, to the U.S.<\/p>\n<p>Gbadegesin is alleged to have defrauded an American lady living in Kentucky of over $148,000.<\/p>\n<p>Once in the U.S., he will appear before a United States District Court for the District of New Mexico.<\/p>\n<p>Two counts of conspiracy to commit wire fraud and conspiracy to commit money laundering have been filed against him.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>A Nigerian, Adedunmola Gbadegesin, has been extradited to the United States to face criminal charges.
