{"id":184022,"date":"2022-04-30T09:27:14","date_gmt":"2022-04-30T08:27:14","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/?p=184022"},"modified":"2022-04-30T09:27:14","modified_gmt":"2022-04-30T08:27:14","slug":"twitter-ceo-agrawal-quells-employees-anger-over-elon-musk","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/2022\/04\/30\/twitter-ceo-agrawal-quells-employees-anger-over-elon-musk\/","title":{"rendered":"Twitter CEO Agrawal quells employees&#8217; anger over Elon Musk"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>On Friday, Chief Executive Parag Agrawal attempted to calm employee rage during a company-wide meeting in which employees demanded answers about how managers planned to handle an anticipated mass exodus prompted by Elon Musk.<\/p>\n<p>The meeting comes after Musk, the Tesla CEO who sealed a $44 billion deal to buy Twitter, repeatedly chastised <a href=\"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/2021\/11\/30\/new-twitter-ceo-called-out-as-his-inflammatory-2010-tweet-resurfaces\/\">Twitter&#8217;s content moderation<\/a> practices and a top executive in charge of setting speech and safety policies.<\/p>\n<p>During the internal town hall meeting, which Reuters witnessed, executives stated that the company would monitor staff attrition on a daily basis, but that it was too early to tell how the buyout deal with Musk would affect staff retention.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/2022\/04\/04\/tesla-ceo-elon-musk-buys-9-2-stake-in-twitter-shares-skyrocket\/\">Musk<\/a> has pitched lenders on slashing board and executive salaries but exact cost cuts remain unclear, according to sources familiar with the matter.<\/p>\n<p>One source said Musk would not make decisions on job cuts until he assumes ownership of Twitter.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI\u2019m tired of hearing about shareholder value and fiduciary duty. What are your honest thoughts about the very high likelihood that many employees will not have jobs after the deal closes?\u201d one Twitter employee asked Agrawal, in a question read aloud during the meeting.<\/p>\n<p>Agrawal answered that Twitter has always cared about its employees and would continue to do so.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI believe the future Twitter organization will continue to care about its impact on the world and its customers,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>Executives said during the meeting that the employee attrition rate has not changed compared to the levels before the news of Musk\u2019s interest in buying the company.<\/p>\n<p>In recent days, Musk has tweeted criticism of Twitter\u2019s top lawyer, Vijaya Gadde, who is a Twitter veteran and widely respected across Silicon Valley. Musk\u2019s attack triggered a barrage of online harassment targeting her.<\/p>\n<p>Employees also told executives they feared Musk\u2019s erratic behaviour could destabilize Twitter\u2019s business, and hurt it financially as the company prepares to address the advertising world in a presentation next week in New York City.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cDo we have a strategy in the near-term on how to handle advertisers pulling investment,\u201d one employee asked.<\/p>\n<p>Sarah Personette, Twitter\u2019s chief customer officer, said the company was working to communicate frequently with advertisers and reassure them \u201cthe way that we service our customers is not changing.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>After the meeting, a Twitter employee told Reuters there was little trust in what executives had to say.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe PR speak is not landing. They told us don\u2019t leak and do a job you are proud of, but there is no clear incentive for employees to do this,\u201d the employee told Reuters, noting that compensation for non-executive staffers is now capped because of the deal.<\/p>\n<p>Agrawal is estimated to receive $42 million if he were terminated within 12 months of a change in control at the social media company, according to research firm Equilar.<\/p>\n<p>During the meeting, Agrawal urged staff to expect a change in the future under new leadership and acknowledged that the company could have performed better over the years.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cYes, we could have done things differently and better. I could have done things differently.
