{"id":184103,"date":"2022-04-30T13:11:42","date_gmt":"2022-04-30T12:11:42","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/?p=184103"},"modified":"2022-04-30T23:02:03","modified_gmt":"2022-04-30T22:02:03","slug":"lawyer-explains-legal-implications-of-sleeping-with-animal-in-nigeria","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/2022\/04\/30\/lawyer-explains-legal-implications-of-sleeping-with-animal-in-nigeria\/","title":{"rendered":"Lawyer explains legal implications of having &#8216;affair&#8217; with dogs, other animals in Nigeria"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Akande Paul, Managing Partner of Universe Attorneys has cautioned against\u00a0sleeping with an animal in Nigeria.<\/p>\n<p>The warning given by Paul came amid\u00a0concerns over a trending video of a dog having an affair with a lady.<\/p>\n<p>As at the time of reportage, WITHIN NIGERIA could not confirm if the video was recorded in Nigeria or not.<\/p>\n<p>Reacting to the sad development, Akande said\u00a0the Criminal Code Act and the Penal Code Act criminalise sleeping with an animal.<\/p>\n<p>He explained that sleeping with an animal attract 14 years <a href=\"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/2022\/04\/08\/20-year-old-boy-bags-21-years-imprisonment-for-murder-in-edo\/\">imprisonment<\/a> in Nigeria.<\/p>\n<p>He said, \u201cIt is a Criminal offence for anybody in Nigeria to have sex with lower animals like dogs, horses, cats, cows, etc.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOral sex (\u2018receiving head\u2019) from an <a href=\"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/2022\/02\/14\/animal-rights-group-condemns-bayern-player-thomas-muller-for-selling-horse-semen\/\">animal<\/a> is a sexual act which constitutes sexual offence.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIn Nigeria, it is an offense to engage in bestiality (having canal knowledge of an animal).<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe punishment is 14 years imprisonment upon conviction based on Section 214 of the Criminal Code Act; Section 284 of the Penal Code Act.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Section 214 of Criminal Code Act states that \u201cAny person who- (1) has carnal knowledge of any person against the order of nature; or (2) has carnal knowledge of an animal; or (3) permits a male person to have carnal knowledge of him or her against the order of nature; is guilty of a felony, and is liable to imprisonment for fourteen years.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Section 284 of the Penal Code Act states that \u201cWhoever has carnal intercourse against the order of nature with any man, woman or animal shall be punished with imprisonment for a term which may extend to fourteen years and shall also be liable to fine.\u201d<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Akande Paul, Managing Partner of Universe Attorneys has cautioned against\u00a0sleeping with an animal in Nigeria.
