{"id":184135,"date":"2022-04-30T14:31:12","date_gmt":"2022-04-30T13:31:12","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/?p=184135"},"modified":"2022-04-30T14:31:12","modified_gmt":"2022-04-30T13:31:12","slug":"pdp-only-national-chairman-secretary-can-sign-membership-cards-for-congresses","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/2022\/04\/30\/pdp-only-national-chairman-secretary-can-sign-membership-cards-for-congresses\/","title":{"rendered":"PDP: Only national chairman, secretary can sign membership cards for congresses"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>National publicity secretary of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Debo Ologunagba has stated that only the national chairman and the national secretary are authorised to authenticate party membership cards for congress participation.<\/p>\n<p>This was contained in a press statement released on Saturday by Debo Ologunagba.<\/p>\n<p>According to the PDP national publicity secretary, <span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">information making the rounds in the party\u2019s Lagos chapters that membership cards have to be authenticated by ward chairmen is wrong and only a \u201cmisinterpretation\u201d.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">He said party members with duly signed membership cards are eligible to participate in the party\u2019s 3-man Ad-Hoc congresses scheduled for Saturday, April 30, 2022.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">\u201cThe Peoples Democratic Party <a href=\"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/2022\/04\/29\/breaking-pdp-screens-17-presidential-aspirants-disqualifies-two\/\">(PDP)<\/a> hereby clarifies on the membership eligibility to participate in congresses to elect the 3-man Ad-Hoc delegates who shall, in turn, elect party candidates for the 2023 general elections,\u201d the statement reads.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">\u201cThis clarification becomes necessary following reports of misinterpretation in some chapters, particularly in Lagos state, where some party stakeholders are reportedly demanding that membership cards have to be authenticated by ward chairmen before the holders are eligible to participate in the 3-man Ad-Hoc Congresses scheduled for Saturday, April 30, 2022.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">\u201cFor the avoidance of doubt, the only authority vested with the power to authenticate party membership cards for eligibility to participate in congresses, including the 3-man Ad-Hoc delegate congresses, is the national chairman and the national secretary through their signatures on the cards.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">He said the process was in line with chapter 2, part 1, Article 8(7) of the PDP\u2019s 2017 constitution (as amended).<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">He added that members holding membership cards already authenticated by the national chairman and national secretary \u201cdo not require any further authentication by ward chairmen or any other officer of the party at any level whatsoever before they can participate in the 3-man Ad-hoc delegate congresses and party primaries\u201d.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">\u201cA member with a duly authenticated membership card by the nationalchairman and national Secretary and who is up to date in his financial obligation to the party shall be eligible to participate and vote in the 3-man Ad-hoc delegate congress.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">\u201cAll party leaders, critical stakeholders and members should note accordingly,\u201d he added.<\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>National publicity secretary of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Debo Ologunagba has stated that only the national chairman and the national secretary are authorised to authenticate party membership cards for congress participation.
