{"id":184882,"date":"2022-05-03T16:32:12","date_gmt":"2022-05-03T15:32:12","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/?p=184882"},"modified":"2022-05-03T16:32:12","modified_gmt":"2022-05-03T15:32:12","slug":"clark-gowon-should-have-allowed-igbo-leave","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/2022\/05\/03\/clark-gowon-should-have-allowed-igbo-leave\/","title":{"rendered":"Clark: Gowon should have allowed Igbo leave"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Chief Edwin Clark, leader of the Pan Niger Delta Forum has disclosed that\u00a0former military Head of State, General Yakubu Gowon, should have allowed the Igbo to secede at the outset of the civil war in 1966.<\/p>\n<p>This was disclosed by Clark\u00a0during an interview on Arise TV, where he condemned the unfair treatment handed to the South-East by concentrating power in the northern region.<\/p>\n<p>He stressed the need for the region to be treated with a sense of belonging and called for political parties, especially the All Progressives Congress and the Peoples Democratic Party, to zone their presidential tickets to a candidate from the South-East.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cMy idea of zoning the Presidency to the South-East is well-known. No Nigerian will like to live in a country where certain people believe that they have the only right to lead. The APC believes the 12 million votes by President Muhammadu Buhari might be eroded if it is zoned to the South. The PDP is also considering <a href=\"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/2022\/05\/03\/2023-presidency-apc-must-take-a-stance-on-zoning-akeredolu\/\">zoning<\/a> to the North. This is unfair.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cNigeria stood on three legs, and it has never been steady since one of the legs was destroyed during the Civil War.
