Apex Igbo socio-cultural organisation, Ohanaeze Ndigbo has cautioned all presidential aspirants from the South-East against settling for the position of running mate in the 2023 election.<\/p>\n
The warning was contained in a press statement issued on Wednesday by the President-General of Ohanaeze Ndigbo Youth Council Worldwide.<\/p>\n
The warning is coming amid speculation that former Anambra State Governor, Peter Obi is contemplating the position of running mate to Atiku Abubakar.<\/p>\n
Obi was the Vice Presidential Candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, in the 2019 general election. It is now being rumoured that he would deputize Atiku again in the forthcoming election.<\/p>\n
Reacting to the speculation, the organisation said\u00a0 Obi or any other presidential aspirant from the region must not shelve their presidential aspiration for a vice presidential position.<\/p>\n
It added that it would not take things lightly with any presidential aspirants who accept to play a second second fiddle.<\/p>\n
\u201cSpeculation has been rife that Mr. Peter Obi, Okwute Ndigbo has accepted to be Atiku\u2019s running mate and we cannot ignore it again.<\/p>\n
\u201cThis is why we are sounding a note of warning that neither Obi nor any other Igbo man or woman should jettison this project. They should not accept to be a spare tire any more.<\/p>\n
\u201cNo Igbo man should be cajoled out of this race because we are part and parcel of this country. If it is otherwise, this is the time to let us know and we will take our fate in our hands.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe are saying for the umpteenth time that both the APC and the PDP should micro-zone their presidential tickets to the South-East. Anything short of that is unacceptable,\u201d Okwu stated.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
