{"id":185539,"date":"2022-05-05T21:17:57","date_gmt":"2022-05-05T20:17:57","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/?p=185539"},"modified":"2022-05-05T21:17:57","modified_gmt":"2022-05-05T20:17:57","slug":"fg-lagos-ibadan-highway-to-be-inaugurated-in-june","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/2022\/05\/05\/fg-lagos-ibadan-highway-to-be-inaugurated-in-june\/","title":{"rendered":"FG: Lagos-Ibadan highway to be inaugurated in June"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The federal government has stated that the Lagos-Ibadan expressway will be commissioned next month.<\/p>\n<p>This was stated on Thursday by\u00a0<span class=\"acssf62a8\">Mu\u2019azu Sambo, minister of state for works and housing in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in New York.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>Sambo added that the Second Niger Bridge will be commissioned in October.<\/p>\n<p>President Muhammadu Buhari on October 11 said<span class=\"acssf62a8\">\u00a0the Second Niger Bridge, Lagos-Ibadan expressway, and other key projects under the Presidential Infrastructure Development Fund (PIDF) will be completed before 2023.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span class=\"acssf62a8\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.thecable.ng\/second-niger-bridge-91-completed-says-fashola\/amp\">Last month<\/a>,\u00a0 Babatunde Fashola, minister of works and housing, said the Second Niger Bridge was at a 91 percent completion rate.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span class=\"acssf62a8\">According to Sambo, Buhari has handed over 941 km of road projects between November 25 and December 13, 2021, to connect 10 states in five geo-political zones.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span class=\"acssf62a8\">\u201cThe Second Niger Bridge that has alluded every administration will be commissioned in October by President Muhammadu Buhari and Lagos-Ibadan highway that has deferred previous administrations will be commissioned in June,\u201d Sambo said.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span class=\"acssf62a8\">\u201cThey represent critical infrastructure necessary to develop a country and its people, for them to be able to get on with their lives in an easy and convenient way.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span class=\"acssf62a8\">\u201cPresident Buhari clearly understands the necessity to invest in infrastructure, not just to support a growing population but as an economic driver.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span class=\"acssf62a8\">\u201cIt is, therefore, not surprising that, through the federal ministry of works and housing, we are managing over 1,019 contracts involving 958 bridges and road projects.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span class=\"acssf62a8\">The minister also said the federal government is also constructing houses in 34 states of the federation, citing about 6,000 housing units nationwide so far.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>He added that infrastructure is the bedrock of development as it covers all the sectors of life.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The federal government has stated that the Lagos-Ibadan expressway will be commissioned next month.
