President Muhammadu Buhari has condoled with the family of those who lost their lives after a boat capsized in Mai\u2019aduwa Local Government Area of Katsina.<\/p>\n
The president condolences were contained in a statement by his spokesperson, Garba Shehu, on Friday in Abuja.<\/p>\n
Buhari expressed sadness, saying he was extremely pained by the incident.<\/p>\n
The boat was carrying mostly children returning from Sallah celebrations.<\/p>\n
He said: \u201cMy thoughts are with the bereaved families.<\/p>\n
\u201cRight now, rescue operations by the state government and National Inland Waterways Authority, NIWA, are ongoing at the site of the tragedy, hoping to rescue missing passengers.<\/p>\n
\u201cNIWA has been directed to provide more life jackets to the communities in the areas. I pray for the repose of the deceased and for the safety of everyone on board.\u201d<\/p>\n
The president warned against use of rickety boats, overloading and none use of life jackets which had been associated with frequent boat mishaps in the country.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
