The All Progressives Congress (APC) has said the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), Godwin Emefiele, is a member of the political party.<\/p>\n
Chairman of the party at Ward 6 in the Ika South Local Government Area of Delta State, Mr Nduka Erikpume, confirmed his membership.<\/p>\n
Erikpume, made this known in an interview with PUNCH on Sunday.<\/p>\n
He said the CBN governor registered as an APC member since February 2021.<\/p>\n
When asked whether Emefiele had registered in the APC,\u00a0 Erikpume said, \u201cYes, he has registered since February 2021. He is our member.\u201d<\/p>\n
Emefiele has been heavily criticised over his alleged foray into politics as speculation about his presidential ambition gains momentum.<\/p>\n
Three interest groups \u2013 the Rice Farmers Association of Nigeria, Friends of Emefiele and Emefiele Support Group \u2013 last week paid N100m\u00a0 for the APC presidential expression of interest and nominations forms for Emefiele.<\/p>\n
But the CBN governor, in a tweet on Saturday, said he was still waiting for God\u2019s direction, adding that he would purchase the N100m forms himself if he entered the presidential race.<\/p>\n
He said that he would continue to serve the country in his capacity as CBN governor until he received divine counsel to contest for a higher office.<\/p>\n
Senior lawyers and other eminent Nigerians have called for his immediate resignation, adding that his continuous stay as the CBN governor is a desecration of the sacred and lofty office and such portends danger for the country.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
