{"id":186635,"date":"2022-05-10T09:03:05","date_gmt":"2022-05-10T08:03:05","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/?p=186635"},"modified":"2022-05-10T09:03:05","modified_gmt":"2022-05-10T08:03:05","slug":"were-resolving-right-of-way-issues-hindering-power-projects-says-aliyu","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/2022\/05\/10\/were-resolving-right-of-way-issues-hindering-power-projects-says-aliyu\/","title":{"rendered":"We&#8217;re resolving right-of-way issues hindering power projects, says Aliyu"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Minister of power, Abubakar Aliyu has stated that federal government is making &#8220;significant progress&#8221; in resolving right-of-way (RoW) issues to ensure timely completion of power projects.<\/p>\n<p>This was stated on Monday by Aliyu at an interactive session on \u201cFrequent National Grid collapse\u201d, with the senate committee on power and critical stakeholders in Abuja.<\/p>\n<p>Recall that in January 2020, 14 states hiked RoW charges.<\/p>\n<p>The RoW charge is the levy paid to state governments for laying of optic fibre on state roads.<\/p>\n<p>He also said the federal government is working towards improving the reliability of the nation\u2019s power grid.<\/p>\n<p>The national electricity grid suffered a system collapse three times between\u00a0March and April 2022, leading to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/2022\/02\/26\/ogun-oyo-osun-kwara-to-experience-power-outages\/\">power outages<\/a> across the country.<\/p>\n<p>According to him, the country has witnessed improvement in the grid stability over the years.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cFor example in 2017, we had 15 total collapse incidents, in 2018, we had 12, in 2019, we had nine in 2020, we had four and in 2021, two,\u201d NAN quoted the minister as saying.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis year, we have had three collapses due to severe disturbances on the grid.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The minister explained that system collapse usually occurred when there were imbalances between the connected generation, transmission and distribution network.<\/p>\n<p>He, however, said the government was doing everything within its power to ensure that the country had a reliable grid.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis administration has invested huge sums to see that Nigeria has a stable, reliable grid transporting quality power,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAnother challenge we are having are issues of right-of-way across various states.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cJust recently, I raised this issue with the governors during one of their meetings. I am pleased to inform you that we are making significant progress.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI am pleased to inform you that we are making significant progress.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOnce we fully execute these projects across the states, coupled with the efforts we are making to increase operational capacity, we can assure you that we will have a strengthened and reliable grid.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Earlier, Gabriel Suswam, chairman of the senate committee on power, said he was concerned about the collapse of the grid which started in March and has been recurring.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThere are different explanations from the different parastatals and the ministry. Nobody knows what the problems are,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cNigerians have been subjected to very high epileptic service of power.
