{"id":189119,"date":"2022-05-19T15:21:29","date_gmt":"2022-05-19T14:21:29","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/?p=189119"},"modified":"2022-05-19T15:21:29","modified_gmt":"2022-05-19T14:21:29","slug":"customs-we-will-redeploy-e-valuation-policy-on-imported-vehicles-friday","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/2022\/05\/19\/customs-we-will-redeploy-e-valuation-policy-on-imported-vehicles-friday\/","title":{"rendered":"Customs: We will redeploy e-valuation policy on imported vehicles Friday"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) has stated that it will reintroduce the suspended electronic valuation policy on Friday.<\/p>\n<p>This was contained in a letter dated<span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\"> May 17, 2022 and signed by Ajibola Odusany, NCS\u2019 deputy controller, administration, on behalf of Yusuf Malanta, area controller in charge of the Apapa Command of the service.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>According to the agency,<span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">\u00a0there would be a sensitisation programme for <a href=\"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/2022\/05\/16\/ekweremadu-urges-pdp-stakeholders-to-ensure-peaceful-conduct-of-primaries\/\">stakeholders<\/a> in the clearance chain in preparation for the redeployment.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">\u201cIn line with the planned nationwide deployment of the VIN Valuation on Friday, 20 May 2022, and the need to continually enhance the platform for optimal performance and service delivery, the sensitisation which is scheduled to take place on Thursday, May 19, 2022, at 11:00 am is to hold at the Apapa Command conference hall. The Deputy Controller Administration, A Y. Odusanya, on behalf of the Customs Area Controller requested that clearing agents should send their representatives to attend, saying the session would benefit everyone and further clarify any question,\u201d the letter reads.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">Also known as vehicle inspection number (VIN), the policy has generated controversy since its introduction this year.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">Maritime stakeholders and clearing agents associations had protested the deployment of the e-valuation policy\u00a0<\/span><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">and\u00a0<\/span><a class=\"editor-rtfLink\" href=\"https:\/\/www.thecable.ng\/e-valuation-over-12000-imported-vehicles-trapped-over-protest-says-group\/amp\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\"><strong>grounded activities at the ports<\/strong>.<\/span><\/a><\/p>\n<p><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">The freight forwarders said the e-valuation system sharply increased duty paid on imported vehicles.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">The objection forced NCS to suspend the implementation of the VIN policy, following\u00a0<\/span>the\u00a0<strong><a class=\"editor-rtfLink\" href=\"https:\/\/www.thecable.ng\/customs-suspends-e-valuation-of-imported-vehicles-for-one-month\/amp\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">intervention<\/a><\/strong><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">\u00a0of the house of representatives.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">Confirming the latest development to TheCable, Kayode Farinto, acting national president, Nigerian Licensed Customs Agents (ANLCA), said the association would speak after it attends the training.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">\u201cWe\u2019re going for the training. So, we can\u2019t say anything until we\u2019re through with the training,\u201d he said.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">\u201cWe had one in Abuja, and we\u2019ve given them advice.
