Some residents of the Federal Capital Territory have taken to the streets to protest the tenure extension of six area councils\u2019 chairmen and councillors.<\/p>\n
Recall that the FCT minister, Muhammad Bello, had extended the chairmen and councillors’ tenure by one year, citing court judgement.<\/p>\n
The chairmen and councillors\u2019 terms in office reportedly elapsed on yesterday(Thursday) and the newly-elected officials were supposed to be sworn in today.<\/p>\n
According to PUNCH, displeased by the extension order, residents in the Gwagwalada Area Council on Friday morning took to the streets, barricaded the roads and made bonfires, demanding a reversal of the decision.<\/p>\n
It was gathered that the incident obstructed vehicular movements in the area.<\/p>\n
