{"id":190271,"date":"2022-05-24T05:35:17","date_gmt":"2022-05-24T04:35:17","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/?p=190271"},"modified":"2022-05-24T05:35:17","modified_gmt":"2022-05-24T04:35:17","slug":"dismissed-policeman-sentenced-to-life-imprisonment-for-defiling-9-year-old-pupil","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/2022\/05\/24\/dismissed-policeman-sentenced-to-life-imprisonment-for-defiling-9-year-old-pupil\/","title":{"rendered":"Dismissed policeman sentenced to life imprisonment for defiling 9-year-old pupil"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>A dismissed policeman, Mohammed Alidu, has been sentenced to life imprisonment for defiling a nine-year-old school girl in a police barracks.<\/p>\n<p>Justice Abiola Soladoye of an Ikeja Domestic Violence and Sexual Offences Court in her judgment, held that Alidu was a disgrace to the police because he failed to uphold law and order and went about frolicking with an underage girl.<\/p>\n<p>Soladoye held that the prosecution had convincingly proved the charge of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/2022\/04\/17\/40-year-old-man-rapes-brothers-daughter-gags-mouth-with-pillow-in-lagos\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">defilement<\/a> against the convict beyond any reasonable doubt, NAN reports.<\/p>\n<p>She said the survivors\u2019 evidence was fully corroborated by the medical evidence.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe evidence of the survivor is the most credible evidence in identifying the perpetrator.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe vivid and oral testimony of the survivor satisfies the court that prosecution has proved every inch of the ingredients.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHe is a disgrace to the entire police because he failed to uphold law and order as he went on a frolic of his own by engaging in a bizarre and irresponsible behaviour turning the barracks into a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/2022\/04\/22\/my-neighbour-gave-my-wife-substance-to-put-in-my-food-after-having-sex-with-her-benue-man-tells-court\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">sex<\/a> den.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt is most chilling. The defendant is hereby sentenced to life imprisonment without the option of a fine.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHe should have his name entered in the Sex Offenders Register of the Lagos State Government,\u201d the judge added.<\/p>\n<p>NAN reported that four witnesses testified against Alidu in the trial.<\/p>\n<p>According to the prosecution team, Mr Olusola Soneye, Mrs Olufunke Adegoke and Ms Abimbola Abolade, Alidu committed the offence on June 29, 2018 on Makinde Police Barracks Road, Mafoluku, Oshodi.<\/p>\n<p>The prosecution said Alidu grabbed the survivor into a wooden house on her way to school and defiled her.<\/p>\n<p>They submitted that the defendant was apprehended after the survivor reported the case at a police station.<\/p>\n<p>The prosecutors said the defendant confessed to defiling the survivor, blaming it on the devil, but later denied it as an afterthought.<\/p>\n<p>The police said the offence contravened Section 137 of the Criminal Laws of Lagos State, 2015.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>A dismissed policeman, Mohammed Alidu, has been sentenced to life imprisonment for defiling a nine-year-old school girl in a police barracks.
