{"id":191084,"date":"2022-05-27T05:41:53","date_gmt":"2022-05-27T04:41:53","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/?p=191084"},"modified":"2022-05-27T05:41:53","modified_gmt":"2022-05-27T04:41:53","slug":"customs-issues-14-day-ultimatum-to-companies-on-excise-duty-payment","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/2022\/05\/27\/customs-issues-14-day-ultimatum-to-companies-on-excise-duty-payment\/","title":{"rendered":"Customs issues 14-day ultimatum to companies on excise duty payment"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS), Lagos Industrial Command has stated that it will penalise companies that fail to register for payment of excise duty after a 14-day grace period.<\/p>\n<p>This was stated on Thursday by\u00a0<span class=\"acssf62a8\">Queen Ogbudu, comptroller, Lagos Industrial Command, NCS during a stakeholders\u2019 meeting in Lagos.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span class=\"acssf62a8\">She said the 14-day deferment will start from May 27 after which an <a href=\"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/2022\/05\/19\/tension-in-ojo-as-okada-riders-resist-attempts-by-police-officers-to-enforce-ban-on-motorcycles-in-lagos\/\">enforcement<\/a> action against defaulters will be launched.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span class=\"acssf62a8\">\u201cWe are appealing to other factories that are not yet under the excise control because of the fact that they are not aware or they are hiding, they want to avoid paying excise duty, to come forward,\u201d she said.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span class=\"acssf62a8\">\u201cWe are advising them to come forward and do the needful because in a short while, we are going to go all out for them and by the time we get them, we will seal their premises and make them face the wrath of the law.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span class=\"acssf62a8\">\u201cIt is not fair that one will have a factory producing sizeable goods and they are not paying excise duty while others are paying.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span class=\"acssf62a8\">Ogbudu said the essence of calling for the meeting was to engage with stakeholders and key players in the system in order to get quality<\/span> feedback.<\/p>\n<p><span class=\"acssf62a8\">She lauded the contributions and dedication of the stakeholders and equally asked for their support, dedication, patriotism, and openness.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span class=\"acssf62a8\">Ogbudu further reminded the stakeholders of the new federal government\u2019s fiscal policy which had brought some items under excise control.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span class=\"acssf62a8\">\u201cWe feel we cannot just wait until you come to the command, even though the command has written to you intimating you of the new policy,\u201d she said.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span class=\"acssf62a8\">\u201cWhen I resumed, I made sure a reminder was sent to all your companies before the invitation to come today, to keep you abreast of the fiscal policy that is duly signed by the finance minister.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span class=\"acssf62a8\">\u201cCarbonated and sweetened drinks, including fruit juice have N10 per litre; beer and stout, N40 per litre; wines, 20 percent duty and N50 per litre; whiskey, brandy, vodka and rum, have 20 percent duty and N50 per litre.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span class=\"acssf62a8\">\u201cThis is the one that concerns us in Lagos Industrial and that is why we are bringing it to your attention.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span class=\"acssf62a8\">Ogbudu said factories with excise factory number (EFN) were required to apply for a revised entry of premises.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span class=\"acssf62a8\">\u201cIf you have already put in your entry of premises, if you still have the documents that you used at the beginning, all you need to do is apply for re-entry of premises,\u201d Ogbudu said.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>\u201cBut when you cannot lay your hands on it, you have to start afresh by applying for provisional approval before you get your final approval.\u201d<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS), Lagos Industrial Command has stated that it will penalise companies that fail to register for payment of excise duty after a 14-day grace period.
