{"id":19120,"date":"2021-04-08T19:10:49","date_gmt":"2021-04-08T18:10:49","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/?p=19120"},"modified":"2021-04-08T19:10:49","modified_gmt":"2021-04-08T18:10:49","slug":"calls-for-secession-lai-mohammed-identifies-key-reasons-responsible","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/2021\/04\/08\/calls-for-secession-lai-mohammed-identifies-key-reasons-responsible\/","title":{"rendered":"Calls for secession: Lai Mohammed identifies key reasons responsible"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The Minister of Information and Culture, Lai Mohammed, on Thursday, listed the key reasons for the rising calls for secession in the country.<\/p>\n<p>Mohammed said the issues of farmers, herders crisis, banditry, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/2021\/03\/04\/peter-obi-banditry-kidnapping-and-stealing-govts-money-are-only-businesses-thriving-in-nigeria\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">kidnapping<\/a> among other insecurity challenges have led to increasing calls for secession in Nigeria.<\/p>\n<p>The minister stated this during a Town Hall meeting in Kaduna tagged: \u201cSetting Benchmarks for Enhanced Security and National Unity in Nigeria\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>According to him, teamwork from all Nigerians in ensuring the rescue of the country remains the solution to these challenges.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOminously, the general state of insecurity, as reflected in incidences of farmers\/herders clashes, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/2021\/03\/30\/boko-haram-insurgency-funded-with-proceeds-of-banditry-and-kidnapping-fayemi\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Boko Haram insurgency<\/a>, banditry, ethno-religious clashes and intolerance, cultism, drug addiction and kidnapping for ransom, are now triggering rising call for <a href=\"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/2021\/03\/25\/secession-igboho-does-not-represent-the-interest-of-the-people-yoruba-elders-declare\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">secession<\/a> as well as politicization of ethnic and religious differences.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cBluntly put, the insecurity and its manifestations pose a dangerous threat to the unity of the country and its continued existence as one indivisible nation.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHow did we get here and what can we do to change the narrative?
