{"id":192065,"date":"2022-05-30T20:34:24","date_gmt":"2022-05-30T19:34:24","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/?p=192065"},"modified":"2022-05-30T20:34:24","modified_gmt":"2022-05-30T19:34:24","slug":"betrayal-conspiracy-sabotage-wike-speaks-on-pdp-presidential-primary","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/2022\/05\/30\/betrayal-conspiracy-sabotage-wike-speaks-on-pdp-presidential-primary\/","title":{"rendered":"&#8216;Betrayal, conspiracy, sabotage&#8217; &#8211; Wike speaks on PDP presidential primary"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Governor of Rivers, Nyesom Wike has stated that some southerners worked against the zone getting the presidential ticket of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).<\/p>\n<p>This was stated on Monday by Wike\u00a0when he addressed PDP supporters in Rivers state.<\/p>\n<p>Wike, who contested the presidential primary on Saturday, came\u00a0second with 237 votes against former Vice-President Atiku Abubakar\u2019s 371 votes.<\/p>\n<p>In his address on Monday, Wike made references to betrayal, conspiracy, and people who cannot keep to agreement, but he didn\u2019t mention any name in particular.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAs far as I am concerned, there is nothing to worry about. I contested election based on principle and agreement with all the southern governors and the leaders of the south that the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/2022\/05\/30\/2023-presidency-shehu-sani-tells-pdps-atiku-type-of-candidate-to-choose-as-running-mate\/\">presidency<\/a> should go to the south this period,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe have done our own part and we never betrayed anybody, because it is not in our blood to betray. But it\u2019s a shame to those people. Some of the governors from the south are the people they used to sabotage our interest. However, we have shown them that we are not like them. We have the capacity to do whatever is good for us.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI don\u2019t want to talk about some other people who cannot even win election in their own places. I\u2019ve told them that this election, whoever emerges, I will support, and I am not going to go back.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cYes, it may be painful to you, it may be painful to us, but we cannot abandon the party. And let me also say to those who do not understand, and who take Rivers state for a ride, now they have learnt their lesson. You need us. Forget about these people who have nothing to offer and who make noise up and down.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI saw one governor who was dancing. Meanwhile, he did not win one delegate. I told Atiku Abubakar this afternoon when he came to see me that \u2018some of the people following you here, they don\u2019t have votes; they re empty.\u2019 I have votes. I have something to offer. Do they have anything to offer?<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIn 2019, I was the only governor from the south-south who never negotiated with the present government. They came and I said \u2018no, I\u2019m not going to be party to that.\u2019 And that\u2019s why APC never had 25 percent in his state. I said I was not going to sit down with them to negotiate.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhen you see people, they can\u2019t confront me. They can\u2019t face me. It\u2019s merely envy. If somebody is bigger than you, somebody is bigger than you. I told them \u2018look, it\u2019s not to go back. If they give you vice-president, you need my support. So, you will come to me.\u2019 PDP knows. Three states determine elections in Nigeria \u2014 Lagos, Kano and Rivers. Anybody who tries to say that Rivers state is nowhere, it\u2019s at your own peril. If you want to bury yourself, let it be.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cSo, for me, we have done what we are supposed to do. Leave history for those betrayers of their people. History will judge them. They will live and see how betrayers suffer. We have done our best and and the whole world has seen that we have done our best.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>He also made a reference to a governor who \u201csold out his people\u201d, adding that such people have no right to complain about the south being referred to as the minority.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cShame to those who will sell out their own thing. I\u2019ve never seen a thing like this in my life. A governor? And tomorrow, you\u2019ll say \u2018oh, the south is a minority.\u2019 You are the one making yourself to be the minority. Shame! You\u2019re holding something in trust for your people, and you claim that this is what your people want. Then, you sell out,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cNo wonder we cannot move on development. Look at a region \u2014 they ganged up, then your own region cannot gang up? You became tools to be used against the interest of your people. And you think you have won? You have lost. You will continue to be perpetual slaves.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cRivers people, you don\u2019t need to worry yourselves. God\u2019s time is the best.
