{"id":19229,"date":"2021-04-09T05:04:19","date_gmt":"2021-04-09T04:04:19","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/?p=19229"},"modified":"2021-04-09T05:04:19","modified_gmt":"2021-04-09T04:04:19","slug":"pdp-governors-visit-matawalle-beg-him-not-to-join-apc","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/2021\/04\/09\/pdp-governors-visit-matawalle-beg-him-not-to-join-apc\/","title":{"rendered":"PDP governors visit Matawalle, beg him not to join APC"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Six governors from the Peoples Democratic Party visited Governor Bello Matawalle of Zamfara state in an effort to persuade him not to join the All Progressives Congress.<\/p>\n<p>The governors who visited <a href=\"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/2021\/04\/02\/zamfara-gov-matawalle-reveals-why-hes-negotiating-with-bandits\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Matawalle<\/a> in Government House Gusau on Wednesday include Seyi Makinde of Oyo, Nyesom Wike of Rivers, Bala Mohammed of Bauchi, Darius Ishaku of Taraba, Umar Fintiri of Adamawa and Aminu Tambuwal of Sokoto.<\/p>\n<p>It was gathered that the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/2021\/03\/12\/we-will-support-fg-fight-against-insecurity-pdp-governors-declare\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">PDP governors<\/a> spent several hours with Matawalle who was alleged to have concluded arrangements to defect to the APC.<\/p>\n<p>Wike expressed surprise about why members of the APC members wanted Matawalle to join their party after intimidating him on several occasions.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI can\u2019t understand why a party which declared Zamfara a no-fly zone is coming to woo the governor,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>The Rivers governor advised Matawalle not to lose sleep because of insecurity, adding that the situation has been in existence even before the governor took over the affairs of the state.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe insecurity problem started before you became the governor, so, nobody can come and use insecurity to intimidate you,\u201d Wike added.<\/p>\n<p>Wike described the N50m donated by the APC to the victims of the fire incident as a Greek gift, urging Matawalle not to receive the opposition again.<\/p>\n<p>Matawalle expressed happiness with the visit by the PDP governors which he also described as timely following the Gusau market incident.<\/p>\n<p>The Zamfara governor said he was almost abandoned by the PDP governors, lamenting that, \u201ca crying child abandoned by his mother is likely to take food from a street beggar.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Matawalle noted how close he was to Governor Aminu Tambuwal with whom he has a long history dating back to their times at the House of Representatives.<\/p>\n<p>WITHIN NIGERIA recall that a similar visit by three APC governors -Atiku Bagudu (Kebbi), Badaru Abubakar (Jigawa) and Mai Mala Buni (Yobe), who also had a closed-door meeting with Matawalle.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Six governors from the Peoples Democratic Party visited Governor Bello Matawalle of Zamfara state in an effort to persuade him not to join the All Progressives Congress.
