{"id":192548,"date":"2022-06-01T12:54:52","date_gmt":"2022-06-01T11:54:52","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/?p=192548"},"modified":"2022-06-01T16:44:36","modified_gmt":"2022-06-01T15:44:36","slug":"2023-be-on-alert-buhari-planning-to-impose-president-on-us-dino-melaye-to-nigerians","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/2022\/06\/01\/2023-be-on-alert-buhari-planning-to-impose-president-on-us-dino-melaye-to-nigerians\/","title":{"rendered":"2023: Be on alert, Buhari planning to impose president on us \u2013 Dino Melaye to Nigerians"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Senator Dino Melaye, a former lawmaker, has claimed that President Muhammadu Buhari is attempting to impose his successor on Nigerians.<\/p>\n<p>Dino, who lost his bid for the Peoples Democratic Party&#8217;s ticket to run for the Kogi West Senatorial District in 2023, said the country is practising democracy and will not allow the imposition of a president in a video posted on his social media accounts.<\/p>\n<p>He said this in response to Buhari&#8217;s request for the APC governors&#8217; support in selecting his successor.<\/p>\n<p>Recall that Buhari, who met with the governors on Tuesday, had asked them to allow him to choose his successor as they did in their various states.<\/p>\n<p>But <a href=\"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/2021\/03\/30\/dino-melaye-tells-buhari-what-he-should-do-before-embarking-on-medical-trip\/\">Dino<\/a>, in the video, tackled the president for using the word \u2018successor\u2019 and not party flag bearer, alleging that Buhari is aiming at imposing the next president on Nigerians.<\/p>\n<p>He said, \u201cYesterday the president made a statement that is unconstitutional and showed some inhumane tendencies. The president said the APC governors should support him to choose his successor. The president used the word successor and not flagbearer or candidate of the APC.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThat statement has some negative effects and the negative effect is that Buhari wants to impose a president on Nigerians.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe are in a democracy and so we will not allow imposition, we will not allow the president to handle this country as if we are in a monarchial or hereditary system of government.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt is abominable and undemocratic for the president to be talking about a successor in an election that has not been conducted.
