{"id":19278,"date":"2021-04-09T08:01:20","date_gmt":"2021-04-09T07:01:20","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/?p=19278"},"modified":"2021-04-09T08:01:20","modified_gmt":"2021-04-09T07:01:20","slug":"fashola-fg-working-to-redesign-medical-schools","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/2021\/04\/09\/fashola-fg-working-to-redesign-medical-schools\/","title":{"rendered":"Fashola: FG working to redesign medical schools"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Honorable Minister of Works and Housing, Babatunde Fashola has stated that the federal government is focused on redesigning medical schools to improve the public health sector.<\/p>\n<p>This statement was made by the minister at the\u00a0seventh Felix Oladejo Dosekun memorial lecture, organised by the College of Medicine, University of Lagos (CMUL), on Thursday.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">The late Dosekun was the first vice-dean, first deputy provost, and first emeritus professor of the university.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">Speaking on the theme, \u201cMedical Education in Nigeria; The Challenges of Infrastructural Decay\u201d<\/span>, the minister said the government will work towards redesigning facilities that will aid the study of epidemiology, as part of efforts to help the country tackle infectious <a href=\"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/2021\/03\/31\/nigerian-doctors-list-conditions-to-shelve-planned-strike\/\">diseases<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">\u201cWe need to ask ourselves how we can replace and expand the decayed health infrastructure in the medical schools.\u00a0<\/span><span class=\"s1\">No matter the quality of infrastructure, if people do not use it properly, it will not last,\u201d NAN quoted him as saying.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">\u201cOur focus is to redesign medical schools that will improve our public health and preventive health, especially epidemiology area, because of the outbreak of infectious disease or viruses.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">\u201cWe should have a different approach about how to prevent or slow down the decay or depreciation of health infrastructures.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">While adding that the ministry is rehabilitating some roads and federal secretariats, Fashola also noted that it is normal for all infrastructure to wear out over time.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">\u201cThe federal ministry of works has been intervening in the road network leading to tertiary institutions in Nigeria.\u00a0<\/span><span class=\"s1\">Also, we are rehabilitating some federal secretariats at the zones, ministries, departments, and agencies,\u201d he said.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">\u201cWe should know that infrastructure wears out thoroughly over time; it is a reality we must deal with, and, therefore, it is not a challenge but the essence of our existence.\u2019\u2019<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">He, however, urged the alumni of the college to contribute to the maintenance of medical school infrastructure.<\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Honorable Minister of Works and Housing, Babatunde Fashola has stated that the federal government is focused on redesigning medical schools to improve the public health sector.
