{"id":193210,"date":"2022-06-04T08:31:08","date_gmt":"2022-06-04T07:31:08","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/?p=193210"},"modified":"2022-06-04T08:31:08","modified_gmt":"2022-06-04T07:31:08","slug":"apc-presidential-primary-court-told-to-disqualify-tinubu","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/2022\/06\/04\/apc-presidential-primary-court-told-to-disqualify-tinubu\/","title":{"rendered":"APC presidential primary: Court told to disqualify Tinubu"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Some APC members, under the aegis of the Gaskiya Youth Movement, have petitioned the Federal High Court in Abuja to bar Bola Ahmed Tinubu from running in the party&#8217;s presidential primary in 2023.<\/p>\n<p>Tinubu, a former Lagos State Governor, is one of the ruling party&#8217;s presidential aspirants and is set to compete in the party&#8217;s presidential primary on Monday, June 6th and 7th.<\/p>\n<p>The members made the request in a suit marked FHC\/ABJ\/CS\/774\/2022, filed before the Court.<\/p>\n<p>Tinubu and his political party are listed as first and second defendants in the suit, while the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) is listed as the third defendant.<\/p>\n<p>They want the court to determine whether the National Leader of the ruling party can take part in the primaries or that of any other <a href=\"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/2022\/02\/19\/osun-2022-apc-holds-primary-election-amid-apprehension-tight-security\/\">political party<\/a>, given his \u201cquestionable educational background and date of birth\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>They also asked the court to declare that upon consideration of the relevant laws, the former Lagos State Governor cannot take part or contest in the primary election on the platform of the first defendant (APC).<\/p>\n<p>The Abuja court was also asked to declare that given the questionable educational background and date of birth of the presidential aspirants, among other questionable issues, the APC \u201ccannot allow and\/or permit his participation in the primary election for the office of the president\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>The group also wants the court to declare that Tinubu \u201ccannot participate by presenting himself in any primary elections with any political party in Nigeria to be nominated as a presidential aspirant for the 2023 general election.\u201d<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Some APC members, under the aegis of the Gaskiya Youth Movement, have petitioned the Federal High Court in Abuja to bar Bola Ahmed Tinubu from running in the party&#8217;s presidential primary in 2023.
