{"id":193996,"date":"2022-06-07T05:05:20","date_gmt":"2022-06-07T04:05:20","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/?p=193996"},"modified":"2022-06-07T05:05:20","modified_gmt":"2022-06-07T04:05:20","slug":"how-we-survived-gunshots-bombs-falling-roof-owo-church-attack-victim-narrates-ordeal","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/2022\/06\/07\/how-we-survived-gunshots-bombs-falling-roof-owo-church-attack-victim-narrates-ordeal\/","title":{"rendered":"How we survived gunshots, bombs, falling roof, Owo church attack victim narrates ordeal"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>John, Nwogwu, one of the survivors of Sunday\u2019s attack at the St. Francis Catholic Church in Owo, Ondo State, has narrated how he escape from gunshots, bombs during the terror attack.<\/p>\n<p>WITHIN NIGERIA had earlier reported some worshippers lost their lives in the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/2022\/06\/05\/breaking-many-killed-as-suspected-herdsmen-bomb-ondo-church-shot-worshippers\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">explosion<\/a>\u00a0that occurred on the church premises while the mass was going on.<\/p>\n<div class=\"oncujalxt oncujalxt-post-inline oncujalxt-float-center oncujalxt-align-center oncujalxt-column-1 oncujalxt-clearfix no-bg-box-model\">\n<div id=\"oncujalxt-671-1149363033\" class=\"oncujalxt-container oncujalxt-type-code \" data-adid=\"671\" data-type=\"code\">\n<div id=\"oncujalxt-671-1149363033-place\">Speaking from on his sick bed at the Federal Medical Centre in Owo, Nwogwu said he was bombed after running to the altar for refuge.<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p>During an interview with Vanguard, he said; \u201cWhat happened was that we were in the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/2022\/06\/05\/we-were-locked-in-the-church-for-over-20-mins-priest-speaks-on-ondo-church-attack\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">church<\/a> after the last blessing and prayer by the Rev Father.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe just heard gunshots at the entrance of the church and before we know it, they started shooting and killing people.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cBefore we could knew what is going on, we had been surrounded and we had to hide at the back of the altar.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe heard a loud explosion and the ceiling fell on us. Even at that, they were still shooting at us and at the door of the place we are hiding.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI crawled to the altar only to be bombed there by the bandits. But thank God my life was preserved.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI saw one of our choir masters, he was hit by a bullet on the hip and was too tired. I can\u2019t even speak about his condition because he was so weak when we left the church.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cFrom where I was hiding, I was able to see one of the attackers.
