{"id":194478,"date":"2022-06-08T15:20:35","date_gmt":"2022-06-08T14:20:35","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/?p=194478"},"modified":"2022-06-08T15:20:35","modified_gmt":"2022-06-08T14:20:35","slug":"pencom-weve-recovered-n422m-from-employers-who-defaulted-on-pension-remittance","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/2022\/06\/08\/pencom-weve-recovered-n422m-from-employers-who-defaulted-on-pension-remittance\/","title":{"rendered":"PenCom: We\u2019ve recovered N422m from employers who defaulted on pension remittance"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The National Pension Commission (PenCom) has stated that it has recovered N422.34 million from defaulting employers who failed to remit pension contributions by their employees to respective pension fund administrators (PFAs).<\/p>\n<p><span class=\"acssf62a8\">This is contained in the 2022 first-quarter report released by the commission on Tuesday.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>The figure is 30.6 percent lower than\u00a0the commission\u2019s recovery to the tune of N608.55 million in the first quarter of the preceding year.<\/p>\n<p><span class=\"acssf62a8\">PenCom said the amount comprises N124.89 million principal contribution and N295.45 million penalty.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span class=\"acssf62a8\">It added that the sum was recovered from 23 defaulting <a href=\"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/2021\/12\/01\/four-african-women-arrested-in-libya-for-allegedly-blackmailing-female-employers-with-nude-photos\/\">employers<\/a> during the quarter under review.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span class=\"acssf62a8\">Meanwhile, it said six defaulting employers\u00a0<\/span><span class=\"acssf62a8\">have been presented for appropriate legal action.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span class=\"acssf62a8\">\u201cFollowing the issuance of demand notices to defaulting employers whose pension liabilities were established by the recovery agents (RAs) appointed by the commission, the sum of N422.34 million representing principal contribution (N124.89 million) and penalty (N295.45 million) was recovered from 23 defaulting employers during the quarter under review,\u201d the statement reads.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span class=\"acssf62a8\">\u201cMeanwhile, six defaulting employers have been recommended for appropriate legal action for refusing to remit pension contributions of their employees after all administrative actions to make them comply failed.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span class=\"acssf62a8\">The commission said the total pension contributions remitted to individual retirement savings accounts (RSAs) in the first quarter of 2022 stood at N191.44 billion, out of which the private sector contributed N101.11 billion or 52.82 percent, while the public sector accounted for N90.33 billion or 47.18 percent.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span class=\"acssf62a8\">\u201cThe cumulative pension contributions from inception to the end of the first quarter of\u00a0<\/span><span class=\"acssf62a8\">2022 amounted to N7.77 trillion, which is an increase from N7.58 trillion as at the\u00a0<\/span><span class=\"acssf62a8\">end of Q4 2021,\u201d it added.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span class=\"acssf62a8\">PenCom noted that the aggregate pension contributions of the public sector increased from N3.92 trillion in the last quarter of 2021 to N4.02 trillion at the end of Q1 2022.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span class=\"acssf62a8\">Similarly, the aggregate pension contributions of the private sector increased from N3.66 trillion in Q4 2021 to N3.76 trillion at the end of Q1 2022.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span class=\"acssf62a8\">From January to March 2021, PenCom said it received a total of 11,200 applications from private sector organisations for the issuance of pension clearance certificates (PCCs).<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span class=\"acssf62a8\">\u201cOut of this number, PCCs were issued to 10,541 organizations, while 659 applications were in the approval process as at March 31, 2022,\u201d PenCom added.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span class=\"acssf62a8\">\u201cThe records showed that the 10,541\u00a0<\/span><span class=\"acssf62a8\">organizations had remitted a total of N59.39 billion into the retirement s<\/span><span class=\"acssf62a8\">avings accounts (RSAs) of their employees, totaling 45,170.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span class=\"acssf62a8\">The total value of pension fund assets as at March 31, 2022 was N13.88 trillion.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span class=\"acssf62a8\">\u201cThe amount comprised of N9.81 trillion in RSA\u2019 Active\u2019 Funds (RSA Funds I, II, III\u00a0<\/span><span class=\"acssf62a8\">and V); N1.10 trillion in RSA Retiree Fund (Fund IV); N1.54 trillion in CPFAs;\u00a0<\/span><span class=\"acssf62a8\">N1.42 trillion in Approved Existing Schemes.
