{"id":194622,"date":"2022-06-09T04:42:14","date_gmt":"2022-06-09T03:42:14","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/?p=194622"},"modified":"2022-06-09T04:42:14","modified_gmt":"2022-06-09T03:42:14","slug":"police-nab-civil-servant-others-over-attempt-to-defraud-nigerian-govt-of-2bn","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/2022\/06\/09\/police-nab-civil-servant-others-over-attempt-to-defraud-nigerian-govt-of-2bn\/","title":{"rendered":"Police nab civil servant, others after attempt to defraud Nigerian govt of $2bn"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>At least eight suspects have been apprehended for trying to swindle the Federal Government of Nigeria.<\/p>\n<p>The Public Relations Officer of Police in Edo State, SP Chidi Nwabuzor made the disclosure on Wednesday. <\/p>\n<p>The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/2022\/06\/08\/police-arrest-fake-naval-officer-in-lagos\/\">police<\/a> image maker told newsmen that they attempted to defraud the government of $2billion.<\/p>\n<p>Nwabuzor disclosed that the arrest was sequel to complaint received by the crack team of the command on April 25, 2022.<\/p>\n<p>The petition was written by High Chief Richard David, a representative of Okpella community in Etsako Central Local Government Area.<\/p>\n<p>On July 14, 2021, the suspects told the complainant and his kinsmen that they had secured a contract from the Federal Government.<\/p>\n<p>They claimed the \u201capproval\u201d, purportedly through the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), was to evacuate scrap borehole pipes equipment $2billion.<\/p>\n<p>The further claimed the said equipment was meant for the Okpella water project under the Petroleum Trust Fund (PTF).<\/p>\n<p>The police noted that the community \u201cwisely disallowed the evacuation of the items\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>Thereafter, one of the suspects went to the Okpella police station to report that the people stopped them from work.<\/p>\n<p>But during investigation, the police uncovered the fact through the confession of a staff of the Federal Ministry of Special Duties and Intergovernmental Affairs.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe said suspect also agreed to have forged the presidency approval for auctioneer documents for the operation.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cInvestigation has been concluded and the suspects would soon be charged to court\u201d, Nwabuzor added.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>At least eight suspects have been apprehended for trying to swindle the Federal Government of Nigeria.
