Following the Sunday, June 5, 2022 shooting incident at Saint Francis Xavier Catholic Church in Owo, Ondo State, which claimed the lives of several worshippers, the Osun Amotekun Corps has deployed personnel to guard churches and mosques in the state.<\/p>\n

According to a statement made available to newsmen on Sunday by Yusuf Idowu, the Osun Amotekun Spokesperson, the measure is intended to provide adequate security for all residents of the State.<\/p>\n

The Osun Amotekun spokesperson also stated that one of the goals of the action was to strengthen the state’s security apparatus and protect residents’ lives and property from criminality.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe corps would continue to adopt proactive security strategies against any form of security threat in the State.<\/p>\n

\u201cSufficient personnel had been assigned to provide security for the churches and mosques in the State.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe are also patrolling the entire State against any form of security threats<\/a>.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe will continue to map out comprehensive security measures that will enable us to apprehend all kinds of criminals in the State.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe have deployed corps to all the churches and mosques in all the nook and cranny of the State to secure our people from any form of attack by the criminals,\u201d the spokesperson said.<\/p>\n

While urging stakeholders to sensitise residents to volunteer timely information that would aid the corps in apprehending criminal elements, they also assured that there was no cause for alarm.<\/p>\n

Meanwhile, the government of Osun State has stated that it will do everything in its power to strengthen the Amotekun regional security network.<\/p>\n

On Sunday, Osun State Governor Adegboyega Oyetola paid a condolence visit to his Ondo State counterpart, Rotimi Akeredolu, in Akure.<\/p>\n

The purpose of the visit was to express condolences to the people of Ondo following the terrorist attack on Saint Francis Xavier Catholic Church in Owo.<\/p>\n

During his visit, the governor of Osun stated that no effort would be spared in strengthening the security architecture in the southwest region.<\/p>\n

Oyetola, who had previously issued a condolence statement in response<\/a> to the attack, stated that the visit was made in the spirit of solidarity and brotherhood.<\/p>\n

Governor Oyetola described the attack as cruel, barbaric, and heinous, and said it served as a wake-up call for leaders to refocus security efforts in order to improve efficiency and effectiveness in the region.<\/p>\n
