{"id":19676,"date":"2021-04-10T04:46:49","date_gmt":"2021-04-10T03:46:49","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/?p=19676"},"modified":"2021-04-10T18:33:18","modified_gmt":"2021-04-10T17:33:18","slug":"deaths-averted-as-petrol-tanker-truck-collide-in-calabar","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/2021\/04\/10\/deaths-averted-as-petrol-tanker-truck-collide-in-calabar\/","title":{"rendered":"Deaths averted as petrol tanker, truck collide in Calabar"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Deaths were averted on Friday as tanker loaded with 33, 000 litres of petrol collided tanker loaded with 33, 000 litres of petrol.<\/p>\n<p>According to an witness named Michael Etim crash occurred at about 1.30pm, DAILY POST reports.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt was this afternoon when we heard a loud bang at Harbour junction in Calabar Municipal local government area.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cA truck loaded with goods (33 tyres) was coming into Calabar, while a 33, 000 litres <a href=\"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/2021\/03\/16\/photos-tragedy-as-seven-including-pupils-lost-their-lives-in-fatal-accident-along-calabar-itu-highway\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">fuel tanker<\/a> that was fully loaded with fuel was coming out of the Depot<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe fuel tanker was to negotiate out of Calabar and at that point, there was a disconnect between the two drivers, maybe they misunderstood themselves as well as the traffic officer who was giving instruction\u201d he stated.<\/p>\n<p>The Public Relations Officer of the Nigeria Security And Civil Defence Corps, Eremi Solomon John, who confirmed the incident said that though the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/2021\/04\/02\/video-man-survives-ghastly-accident-after-trailer-climbed-and-crushed-his-car-in-anambra\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">accident<\/a> was serious, there was no casualty<\/p>\n<p>John said \u201cThe truck fully loaded with goods coming into Calabar could not hold its break because of the load it was carrying and while the tanker carrying the 33, 000 litre of fuel was already in the middle of the road negotiating<\/p>\n<p>\u201cSo they ran into themselves and a loud bank ensued. The one that ran into it had it front compressed with the driver (Trailer Driver inside). We thank God for the fire service from EPZ and the Nigeria Port Authority Fire Service trucks that came with the Nigeria Security Civil Defence disaster management team to rescue the situation.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe had to tow the truck a little backwards so that the impact, one on one with the tanker will be reduced. Fuel started licking from the tanker and was pouring on the whole road and if there was a small fire, the whole of the areas including Police Station, Mopol 11, and other institutions would have been engulfed by fire.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The NSCDC PRO added that &#8220;the firemen tried, they were pumping water on the tanker to reduce the power of the fuel and also neutralize the one on the ground until they brought another truck to reload the product into it<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhile the security men have to tear the other vehicle to remove the driver and luckily enough, we were able to remove the driver and rushed him to the hospital and there was no casualty.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The Sector Commander, Federal Road Safety Corps, Cross River State, Cyprian Offordu, who also confirmed the accident said \u201cMy men have gone there to rescue the situation.\u201d<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Deaths were averted on Friday as tanker loaded with 33, 000 litres of petrol collided tanker loaded with 33, 000 litres of petrol.
