{"id":197611,"date":"2022-06-20T18:55:14","date_gmt":"2022-06-20T17:55:14","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/?p=197611"},"modified":"2022-06-20T19:32:16","modified_gmt":"2022-06-20T18:32:16","slug":"soludo-debunks-claim-on-peter-obis-20m-investment","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/2022\/06\/20\/soludo-debunks-claim-on-peter-obis-20m-investment\/","title":{"rendered":"Soludo debunks claim on Peter Obi&#8217;s $20m investment"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Governor of Anambra, Chukwuma Soludo has dismissed a statement credited to him that a purported investment of Peter Obi, the presidential candidate of Labour Party, in the state has yielded returns.<\/p>\n<p class=\"caps\">Recall that Peter Obi served as Anambra governor three different times from 2006 to 2014, owing to a series of legal battles occasioned by impeachment and issues on election schedule.<\/p>\n<p>The former Anambra governor\u2019s presidential ambition has gained widespread popularity among Nigerian youths on social media.<\/p>\n<p>In May, there were posts on Facebook claiming that Soludo said Obi invested $20 million in SABMiller Plc, now AB InBev, on behalf of the state and that the investment is now worth $100 million.<\/p>\n<p>Over the past few days, the claim again surfaced on some social media platforms, and on Saturday, there was a post on a Facebook page titled, \u2018Lamentations of A Bishop\u2019, that Obi\u2019s $20 million investment in <a href=\"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/2022\/06\/18\/anambra-80-year-old-royal-cabinet-member-suspended-for-allegedly-defiling-minor-at-building-site\/\">Anambra<\/a> has increased to $100 million.<\/p>\n<p>Commenting on the post, Soludo, via his verified Facebook handle, said his team has \u201croundly\u201d debunked the claim, adding that he never made such a statement.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhere did you read or hear me make such false statement? This fake news has been roundly debunked by my team. We can always carry on with campaigning for our preferred candidates without consciously misleading the reading public. This report is false and never emanated from me.
