Wade.<\/p>\n<p>He said he was fired for &#8220;speaking up in defense of<a href=\"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/2022\/06\/24\/us-supreme-court-strikes-down-abortion-rights-overturns-landmark-ruling\/\"> abortion rights<\/a>.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Lopez via a lengthy post shared on LinkedIn slammed the\u00a0company as &#8220;anti-gay&#8221; for terminating a &#8220;queer brown person&#8221; during Pride Month for &#8220;speaking up in defense of abortion rights.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>He wrote: &#8220;Last Friday, like countless other folks, I was devastated by the news of the supreme court\u2019s attack on abortion rights.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Paired with the flood of anti-queer and anti-trans legislation, it\u2019s been hard to process how company\u2019s\u00a0expect us to be productive while our rights are being stripped away.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Lopez went on to explain that each Friday &#8220;one of my tasks was to process reports for upcoming releases&#8221;\u00a0and then to email his work to 275 people.<\/p>\n<p>But instead of doing the usual process reports, he wrote an email that read: &#8220;I didn\u2019t do them today. I\u2019m in mourning due to the attack on people with uteruses in the US. Federally guaranteed access to abortion is gone.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>He continued in the mail: &#8220;Vivendi and Universal Music Group must stop donating to anti-abortion, anti-queer and anti-trans politicians. Politicians like Marsha Blackburn, Ken Buck, Victoria Spartz, etc. Or expect more unproductive days.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>He signed off the mail\u00a0with &#8220;Yours in fury, Michael Lopez.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>After sending the\u00a0email, Lopez said he received several supportive replies from<a href=\"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/2022\/05\/08\/family-raises-alarm-over-death-of-man-2-months-after-marriage\/\"> co-workers<\/a> but was told by a manager to &#8220;take the rest of the day off.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>When he returned to work the following Monday, he said he was greeted with &#8220;a surprise Zoom video chat with HR.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;I was being let go for (paraphrasing) \u2018Not doing your job, disrupting the day of 275 people and poor judgement\u2019,&#8221;\u00a0Lopez wrote.<\/p>\n<p>A spokesperson for Universal Music Group told The Post: &#8220;As a matter of policy, we can\u2019t discuss an individual\u2019s personnel record. We can say that what was posted on social media is inaccurate.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;UMG has a long record of support for women\u2019s issues,&#8221;\u00a0\u00a0the spokesperson added.<\/p>\n<div class=\"google-auto-placed ap_container\">\n<p>&#8220;As we wrote to our US employees, UMG views reproductive health care as essential.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;In the wake of the recent US Supreme Court ruling overturning Roe v Wade, the company has extended its efforts to assure that these important healthcare services remain accessible to employees.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;We also financially support non-profit groups working in this area and offer a match for employee\u2019s contributions to those groups, as well.&#8221;<\/p>\n<\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Micheal Lopez, an employee of Universal Music Group has claimed that he was fired for speaking up about abortion rights.
