{"id":201533,"date":"2022-07-06T12:05:33","date_gmt":"2022-07-06T11:05:33","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/?p=201533"},"modified":"2022-07-06T12:05:33","modified_gmt":"2022-07-06T11:05:33","slug":"court-grants-ex-imo-gov-okorocha-permission-to-travel-to-uk-for-medical-attention","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/2022\/07\/06\/court-grants-ex-imo-gov-okorocha-permission-to-travel-to-uk-for-medical-attention\/","title":{"rendered":"Court grants ex-Imo Gov, Okorocha permission to travel to UK for medical attention"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>A Federal High Court in Abuja on Wednesday granted permission to former Imo State Governor, Anayo Rochas Okorocha to travel to the United Kingdom for medical attention.<\/p>\n<p>Justice Inyang Eden Ekwo, who granted the permission, ordered the Registrar of the court to release the traveling passport of the former governor to him to undertake the medical trip.<\/p>\n<p>The order of the judge followed an application argued by a Senior Advocate of Nigeria, Mr Ola Olanipekun who notified the court that his client has been having health challenges in recent times.<\/p>\n<p>The senior lawyer argued that Okorocha, now a Senator representing Imo North in the Senate, will not abuse the order and will return to the country for his trial.<\/p>\n<p>Although, the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, represented by Mr Chile Okoroma had sought to vehemently oppose the request, the Commission soft-pedalled when Justice Ekwo explained that the request would be granted with a caveat by the court.<\/p>\n<p>While granting the request, Justice Ekwo ordered <a href=\"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/2022\/06\/10\/okorocha-breaks-silence-after-losing-apc-ticket-to-tinubu\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Okorocha<\/a> to return the passport to the court registrar not later than three days of his arrival in the country.<\/p>\n<p>The judge held that he would declare Okorocha wanted if he attempts to abuse the favour granted him.<\/p>\n<p>Justice Ekwo subsequently fixed November 7 for his trial in the money laundering criminal charges brought against him by the Federal Government.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>A Federal High Court in Abuja on Wednesday granted permission to former Imo State Governor, Anayo Rochas Okorocha to travel to the United Kingdom for medical attention.
