{"id":202407,"date":"2022-07-09T22:11:56","date_gmt":"2022-07-09T21:11:56","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/?p=202407"},"modified":"2022-07-09T22:11:56","modified_gmt":"2022-07-09T21:11:56","slug":"2023-go-to-court-inec-tells-lawan-akpabio-over-exclusion","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/2022\/07\/09\/2023-go-to-court-inec-tells-lawan-akpabio-over-exclusion\/","title":{"rendered":"2023: Go to court \u2013 INEC tells Lawan, Akpabio over exclusion"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has advised politicians who are dissatisfied with the conduct of primaries to seek legal redress.<\/p>\n<p>The ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) had named Senate President Ahmad Lawan and former Minister of Niger Delta Affairs Godswill Akpabio as candidates for the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/2022\/05\/06\/2023-presidency-akpabio-opens-up-on-defection-possibility-says-no-difference-between-apc-pdp\/\">Yobe North and Akwa Ibom<\/a> North-West Senatorial Districts, respectively.<\/p>\n<p>However, Lawan and Akpabio were discovered to be missing from the INEC list.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIn relation to the primaries for the Akwa Ibom North West and Yobe North Senatorial Districts, the Commission stands by the monitoring reports received from our state offices.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cFor this reason, the Commission did not publish the particulars of any candidate for the two constituencies at variance with the State reports,\u201d Festus Okoye, INEC spokesperson, said in a statement on Saturday.<\/p>\n<p>He added that aggrieved parties should take their case to the Federal High Court \u201cas provided in section 285 of the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, 1999 (as amended) and sections 29(5) and 84(14) of the Electoral Act, 202.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Okoye also said INEC\u2019s staff have been working hard to meet the deluge of requests received on the issuance of certified true copies (CTCs) of documents.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has advised politicians who are dissatisfied with the conduct of primaries to seek legal redress.
