{"id":202420,"date":"2022-07-10T07:09:18","date_gmt":"2022-07-10T06:09:18","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/?p=202420"},"modified":"2022-07-10T07:09:18","modified_gmt":"2022-07-10T06:09:18","slug":"pedestrians-escape-as-truck-falls-on-lagos-ibadan-expressway","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/2022\/07\/10\/pedestrians-escape-as-truck-falls-on-lagos-ibadan-expressway\/","title":{"rendered":"Pedestrians escape as truck falls on Lagos-Ibadan expressway"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Pedestrians escaped being killed when a truck fully loaded with soya oil fell and spilled its content on the road along Mowe Junction of the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway.<\/p>\n<p>The incident which occurred around 2:15pm on Saturday.<\/p>\n<p>The truck driver was said to have lost control when a Camry car suddenly stopped for passengers crossing the road at Mowe Junction.<\/p>\n<p>The residents, including men and women, scooped the oil running through the middle of the road, while the driver and his boys tried to transfer the spilled oil into another truck.<\/p>\n<p>According to PUNCH, an eyewitness who identified herself only as Kikelomo, said, \u201cI was standing when suddenly the truck fell down and thank God it didn\u2019t hit the people crossing the road. It would have been a big problem. There was one private car that stopped, and suddenly the next thing I saw was the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/2022\/07\/09\/how-dss-operatives-driving-against-traffic-shot-me-truck-driver\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">truck<\/a> spilling its content on the road.\u2019\u2019<\/p>\n<p>Another eyewitness, Saheed Mohammed, told said that the incident would have been averted if the commuters used the pedestrian bridge.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt was those crossing the road that caused the accident. They have told them many times not to cross the expressway again but they wouldn\u2019t listen. What is difficult about using the bridge for their safety?,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n<p>The state police spokesperson, Abimbola Oyeyemi, who confirmed the incident said, \u201cIt was an <a href=\"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/2022\/07\/08\/kaduna-zaria-road-accident-leaves-nine-dead-12-injured\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">accident<\/a>. The vehicle carried soya oil and the product spilled on the road. To avoid another accident there, we posted police officers to the place. It can only be lifted with a crane. Pending when that will be done, officers will be there.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt is unreasonable for anybody to be crossing expressways where there are pedestrian bridges. It is due to the nature of the road, that\u2019s why the pedestrian bridge was constructed.
