{"id":202578,"date":"2022-07-11T06:24:01","date_gmt":"2022-07-11T05:24:01","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/?p=202578"},"modified":"2022-07-11T07:19:08","modified_gmt":"2022-07-11T06:19:08","slug":"12-rescued-as-bus-falls-into-lagos-canal","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/2022\/07\/11\/12-rescued-as-bus-falls-into-lagos-canal\/","title":{"rendered":"12 rescued as bus falls into Lagos canal"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>At least 12 passengers of a commercial bus have been rescued after the bus they boarded veered off its lane and skidded into the canal at Cement bus stop on Lagos-Abeokuta Expressway.<\/p>\n<p>According to eyewitnesses, the incident happened on Sunday evening, July 10 due to the driver of the commercial bus reckless driving.<\/p>\n<p>The Permanent Secretary, Lagos State Emergency Management Agency, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/2022\/06\/18\/just-in-tragedy-as-one-dies-seven-injured-in-lagos-accident\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">LASEMA<\/a>, Dr Olufemi Oke-Osanyintolu, who confirmed the incident to newsmen said the victims were 7 males and five females who were all taken to the hospital.<\/p>\n<p><img fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-202584 aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/5\/2022\/07\/kunlenet07\/2022\/07\/11\/bus-falls-into-Lagos-canal-.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"800\" height=\"736\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/5\/2022\/07\/kunlenet07\/2022\/07\/11\/bus-falls-into-Lagos-canal-.jpg 800w, https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/5\/2022\/07\/kunlenet07\/2022\/07\/11\/bus-falls-into-Lagos-canal--300x276.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/5\/2022\/07\/kunlenet07\/2022\/07\/11\/bus-falls-into-Lagos-canal--768x707.jpg 768w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 800px) 100vw, 800px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>\u201cUpon arrival at the scene, an accident involving a commercial bus (varagon) with unknown registration number and a Camry car with registration number BDG 963BT were encountered at the scene.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Further information gathered at the scene revealed that the accident occurred as a result of reckless driving from the commercial bus driver which led to the falling off of the commercial bus into the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/2021\/12\/27\/breaking-loaded-passenger-bus-plunges-into-canal-in-lagos\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">canal<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;The 12 ( 7 male and 5 female injured passengers have been rescued and taken to the hospital,&#8221; he said.<\/p>\n<p>Osanyintolu added that car driver (an adult male) sustained minor injuries and was attended to at the scene by the paramedics team.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe LRT team alongside, LRU paramedics and The Nigeria Police were responders at the scene.
