{"id":203016,"date":"2022-07-12T19:21:11","date_gmt":"2022-07-12T18:21:11","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/?p=203016"},"modified":"2022-07-12T19:21:11","modified_gmt":"2022-07-12T18:21:11","slug":"tragedy-averted-as-petrol-tanker-crashes-in-lagos","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/2022\/07\/12\/tragedy-averted-as-petrol-tanker-crashes-in-lagos\/","title":{"rendered":"Tragedy averted as petrol tanker crashes in Lagos"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Tragedy averted was on Tuesday when a fuel-laden tanker fell while ascending the Costain Bridge inward Iponri along the Funsho Williams Avenue, Lagos State.<\/p>\n<p>The incident occurred at about 2p.m., when the tanker hit a car, then tumbled and spilled its contents.<\/p>\n<p>However, it was promptly attended to by emergency responders and nobody was injured during the incident.<\/p>\n<p>The Permanent Secretary, Lagos State Emergency Management Agency, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/2021\/11\/16\/lasema-reveals-the-cause-of-ladipo-explosion\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">LASEMA<\/a>, Dr. Oluwafemi Oke-Osanyintolu, and Mrs. Adeseye Margaret, Director, Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service confirmed the incident.<\/p>\n<p>Adeseye said men of the fire service were on ground mitigating the situation, assuring public safety and counting on public support to do away with combustible materials within the vicinity.<\/p>\n<p>Giving updates on the incident, the Permanent Secretary said: \u201cUpon arrival at the scene, LRT found a fallen <a href=\"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/2022\/06\/28\/kogi-tanker-explosion-leaves-three-dead-two-injured\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">tanker<\/a> laden with 33,000 litres of PMS.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cInvestigations revealed that the tanker, while ascending the bridge rolled back, hit a car then tumbled and spilled its contents.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe LRT, alongside LASTMA, Police, state and federal fire and were joint responders on ground.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe fire fighters are blanketing the spilled contents, while adequate safety measures have been put in place to avoid ignition of fire.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>As at 4.45p.m., he said: \u201cTrans-loading of the product into another tanker is ongoing.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cMembers of the public are to avoid the area and refrain from scooping of product.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cResidents should avoid lighting any naked flame until the situation has been fully contained.\u201d<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Tragedy averted was on Tuesday when a fuel-laden tanker fell while ascending the Costain Bridge inward Iponri along the Funsho Williams Avenue, Lagos State.
