{"id":203035,"date":"2022-07-12T21:28:14","date_gmt":"2022-07-12T20:28:14","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/?p=203035"},"modified":"2022-07-12T21:28:14","modified_gmt":"2022-07-12T20:28:14","slug":"ayade-approves-100-increase-of-judges-salaries","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/2022\/07\/12\/ayade-approves-100-increase-of-judges-salaries\/","title":{"rendered":"Ayade approves 100% increase of judges\u2019 salaries"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Governor of Cross River State, Ben Ayade, has approved the review of the salaries and welfare of judicial officers in the state.<\/p>\n<p>He announced the new salary package at the Executive Chamber of the Governor\u2019s Office, Calabar.<\/p>\n<p>The new salary package takes effect from August 1, 2022, and the salaries of the state\u2019s high court judges will be increased by 100 percent.<\/p>\n<p>It was also announced that Judges of the Customary Court of Appeal will also have their salaries increased by 100 percent while those of Magistrates will be increased by 50 percent.<\/p>\n<p>Similarly, the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/2022\/06\/29\/ayade-sacks-monarchs-of-warring-communities-in-2-lgas\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">governor<\/a> has granted all judicial officers in the state immediate land allocation.<\/p>\n<p>Ayade said, \u201cAs a matter of state government\u2019s policy, any judicial officer sworn in will have his or her official car ready for delivery.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>He approved new recruitment into the state\u2019s judicial service, saying, \u201cWe have witnessed massive vacancy in the Ministry of Justice occasioned by retirement.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cTo this effect, we have approved for the Chief Judge with the support of the Head of Service and the Civil Service Commission, the employment of 500 workers in the Ministry of Justice for the first phase alone.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>According to him, his administration has approved the setting aside of 25 percent of the gross emoluments to support judicial officers\u2019 allowances in terms of vacation, travels, among others.<\/p>\n<p>He said that he has addressed the immediate challenges of the state judiciary and pledged the support of his administration to that arm of government.<\/p>\n<p>Ayade said he acted in accordance with the report of the State Judicial Welfare Review Committee he set up in April.<\/p>\n<p>The Committee had retired Justice Eyo Effiong Ita as Chairman and the state\u2019s Head of Service, Timothy Ogbang Akwaji as Secretary.<\/p>\n<p>It was charged with reviewing the salaries of Cross River state judicial officers.<\/p>\n<p>The governor lauded the state Chief Judge, Justice Akon Ikpeme, \u201cfor her diplomatic, studious and consistent push in achieving these goals.\u201d<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Governor of Cross River State, Ben Ayade, has approved the review of the salaries and welfare of judicial officers in the state.
