{"id":205818,"date":"2022-07-25T13:25:09","date_gmt":"2022-07-25T12:25:09","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/?p=205818"},"modified":"2022-07-25T13:25:09","modified_gmt":"2022-07-25T12:25:09","slug":"nimet-to-north-east-south-west-states-prepare-for-flood","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/2022\/07\/25\/nimet-to-north-east-south-west-states-prepare-for-flood\/","title":{"rendered":"NiMet to North East, South West states: Prepare for flood"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet) has admonished Nigerians especially those in Taraba state and some parts of the South West areas to prepare for impending flood as a result of expected rainfall.<\/p>\n<p>This advice was given by Prof. Mansur Matazu, director-general of NiMet while urging <a href=\"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/2022\/07\/25\/nigerians-will-vote-apc-in-2023-we-have-done-well-fashola\/\">Nigerians<\/a> not to be caught unawares owing to recent rainfalls experienced across the country.<\/p>\n<p>Matazu noted\u00a0that NiMet recorded 95 percent precision and accuracy in the last 15 years even when the World Meteorological Organization (WMO) said 60 percent precision is good.<\/p>\n<p>Lamenting that some states and local governments are not adhering to early warnings issued by the federal government by aligning to activities at the national level aimed at mitigating the effect of floods, he also stressed the need for <a href=\"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/2022\/02\/17\/fg-to-mdas-stop-using-gmail-yahoo-mail-for-official-communication\/\">MDAs<\/a> to take all the warnings from NiMet to mitigate the impact of flooding.<\/p>\n<p>He expressed optimism that with the agency\u2019s good working relationship with the National Orientation Agency and Ministry of Information, a lot of sensitization will be done to ensure that Nigerians take cognizance of climate forecast in their daily activities.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet) has admonished Nigerians especially those in Taraba state and some parts of the South West areas to prepare for impending flood as a result of expected rainfall.
