{"id":20597,"date":"2021-04-12T13:34:15","date_gmt":"2021-04-12T12:34:15","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/?p=20597"},"modified":"2021-04-12T13:34:15","modified_gmt":"2021-04-12T12:34:15","slug":"resident-doctors-association-reveal-why-it-went-on-strike","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/2021\/04\/12\/resident-doctors-association-reveal-why-it-went-on-strike\/","title":{"rendered":"Resident doctors association reveal why it went on strike"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The Nigerian Association of Resident Doctors (NARD) has disclosed why it went on strike.<\/p>\n<p>According to the medical association, the federal government would not have listened to its demands if it had not embarked on the nationwide strike.<\/p>\n<p>This disclosure was made by the president of the association, Uyilawa Okhuaihesuyi on Monday when\u00a0he featured of Channels Television\u2019s \u2018Sunrise Daily\u2019.<\/p>\n<p>Recall that the association on Saturday suspended its strike which commenced on April 1.<\/p>\n<p>Speaking on the Programme, Okhuaihesuyi said because of the strike the association had been able to achieve 75 to 80 percent of payment for <a href=\"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/2021\/04\/10\/breaking-resident-doctors-suspend-nationwide-strike\/\">resident doctors<\/a> and a proposed review of the N5,000 hazard allowance.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">\u201cI don\u2019t think we would have been listened to if we didn\u2019t go on strike. Because as it stands, the insurance has been there for exactly nine months, and some as much as five years ago. Because we\u2019re not just talking about COVID-19, there\u2019s Lassa fever, there\u2019s HIV. There are other people that have had some complications due to other illness and the hazards they face. And there have been insurance complaints, not even now,\u201d he said.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">\u201cIf we didn\u2019t go on this strike, we wouldn\u2019t have been able to achieve this. If we didn\u2019t go on the strike, we wouldn\u2019t have been able to achieve the proposed review of the hazard allowance. If we didn\u2019t go on this strike, they wouldn\u2019t tell us to go and make a supplementary budget for those that have not been paid the medical training fund.
