The Lagos State Government says it will prosecute Arise Television staff, Rufai Oseni, over traffic related offence. <\/p>\n
The outspoken journalist admitted that he passed the Bus Rapid Transition (BRT) lane on Monday.<\/p>\n
Rufai is also known to be very critical of government officials. <\/p>\n
On Twitter, Rufai explained that he did so because other vehicles passed and were not stopped.<\/p>\n
He said a policeman pointed a gun at him, took his keys, and drove the car off, \u201cbecause he wanted to enforce a traffic infraction\u201d.<\/p>\n
The tweet drew reactions as users labelled him a lawbreaker. But the government critic swiftly rejected the tag.<\/p>\n
\u201cI am not a lawbreaker, I saw cars pass through the supposed BRT lane and they were not stopped.<\/p>\n
\u201cIf I didn\u2019t see other cars I would not go through, plus I wasn\u2019t conversant with the road. I will never deliberately break the law.\u201d<\/p>\n
Rufai added that he offered to pay for the traffic infraction but the police insisted on collecting his keys.<\/p>\n
Reacting, Lagos Police Public Relations Officer, Benjamin Hundeyin faulted the media practitioner.<\/p>\n
\u201cRufai, let\u2019s not do this. You admitted to me that you passed a BRT lane. It\u2019s against the law.<\/p>\n
\u201cYour claim that google maps took you there is not tenable. You disobeyed and resisted the officers.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe\u2019ll sanction the officer who misused firearm if proven\u201d, the spokesman assured.<\/p>\n
In a tweet, Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu\u2019s Chief Press Secretary, Gboyega Akosile said the pundit will be prosecuted.<\/p>\n
\u201cThank you Rufai, while the @PoliceNG deal with the police officer in their own way, we\u2019d ensure that necessary action is taken against you for driving on BRT lane as you\u2019ve admitted to the police.<\/p>\n
