{"id":207347,"date":"2022-08-01T21:09:13","date_gmt":"2022-08-01T20:09:13","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/?p=207347"},"modified":"2022-08-01T21:09:13","modified_gmt":"2022-08-01T20:09:13","slug":"fuel-scarcity-fg-speaks-on-purported-removal-of-fuel-subsidy","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/2022\/08\/01\/fuel-scarcity-fg-speaks-on-purported-removal-of-fuel-subsidy\/","title":{"rendered":"Fuel scarcity: FG speaks on purported removal of fuel subsidy"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The Federal Government of Nigeria has cleared the air on claims that it has removed subsidy on the Premium Motor Spirit (PMS), otherwise known as petrol.<\/p>\n<p>Speaking with newsmen in Abuja on Monday, Timipre Sylva, the Minister of State for Petroleum Resources, said the government has not removed <a href=\"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/2022\/07\/27\/asuu-strike-falana-slams-fgs-over-paucity-of-funds-claim-fraudulent-oil-subsidy\/\">subsidy from petrol<\/a>. <\/p>\n<p>Sylva spoke on the sidelines of the Nigerian Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority (NMDPRA) stakeholders\u2019 consultation forum on regulations.<\/p>\n<p>The minister was reacting to the increase in pump price of petroleum by marketers from N165 per litre to N169, N184 and N218 per litre, depending on the area in the nation\u2019s capital and other states.<\/p>\n<p>He said, \u201cI can tell you authoritatively, we have not deregulated. The government is still subsidising petrol prices. If there are increases in price, it\u2019s not from the government.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt is probably from the marketers, but of course, I will talk to the authorities to ensure that they actually regulate the price. This isn\u2019t from the government, we\u2019ve not deregulated.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cBut a lot is going on to ensure that the queues end.
