{"id":210290,"date":"2022-08-15T09:28:39","date_gmt":"2022-08-15T08:28:39","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/?p=210290"},"modified":"2022-08-15T14:03:01","modified_gmt":"2022-08-15T13:03:01","slug":"bank-robbery-prank-ondo-court-remands-19-year-old-comedian","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/2022\/08\/15\/bank-robbery-prank-ondo-court-remands-19-year-old-comedian\/","title":{"rendered":"Bank Robbery Prank: Ondo court remands 19-year-old comedian"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Eyinatayo Iluyomade, a 19-year-old Lagos-based comedian has been remanded in prison for playing pranks by dropping a threat note of robbery at the counter of First Bank, in Ondo town, Ondo State.<\/p>\n<p>WITHIN NIGERIA learnt that\u00a0Iluyomade was charged to court by the police on three count-charge bordering on conspiracy, threat and manner likely to pose a security threat.<\/p>\n<p>The Police prosecutor, Akao Moremi, told the court that the defendant dropped the note at the bank indicating that by 1 pm on the same date, his <a href=\"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/2022\/05\/24\/court-sentences-man-to-21-years-in-prison-for-armed-robbery\/\">armed robbery<\/a> gang members would come to rob the bank.<\/p>\n<p>Moremi said the note posed a security threat to the First Bank\u2019s Sabo branch, in Ondo town and also caused all banks operating in Ondo to shut down for the whole day.<\/p>\n<p>The defendant pleaded not guilty to the charge against him.<\/p>\n<p>But the defence counsel, Hawkins Akinnugba, applied for the bail of the defendant in most liberal terms.<\/p>\n<p>The bail application was, however, opposed by the police prosecutor on the ground that the defendant would temper with the cause of investigation of the matter as there were other <a href=\"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/2022\/08\/05\/insecurity-osun-amotekun-warns-against-harbouring-criminals\/\">criminal elements<\/a> behind the threat.<\/p>\n<p>The trial Magistrate, Mosunmola Ikujuni, refused the bail application pending the apprehension of other members of the criminal gangs.<\/p>\n<p>Ikujuni said \u201cif on the next adjournment date, the prosecution is yet to apprehend all other criminals involved in the matter, then the court will do the needful.<\/p>\n<p>She, therefore, adjourned the case for ruling on the bail application.<\/p>\n<p>The defendant, however, told the court that he is a comedian and that the note that he dropped at the First Bank was a prank, adding that he has been doing this in Lagos until he relocated to Ondo town.<\/p>\n<p>According to him, \u201cthis is the first time am playing the prank in Ondo.<\/p>\n<p>He said \u201c there is no other gang that wanted to rob the bank as it was written in the note<\/p>\n<p>Iluyomade, therefore, pleaded with the court to forgive him and promised not to play such a prank again<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Eyinatayo Iluyomade, a 19-year-old Lagos-based comedian has been remanded in prison for playing pranks by dropping a threat note of robbery at the counter of First Bank, in Ondo town, Ondo State.
