{"id":212345,"date":"2022-08-24T08:57:39","date_gmt":"2022-08-24T07:57:39","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/?p=212345"},"modified":"2022-08-24T08:57:39","modified_gmt":"2022-08-24T07:57:39","slug":"n50m-debt-court-police-seize-andy-ubas-cars","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/2022\/08\/24\/n50m-debt-court-police-seize-andy-ubas-cars\/","title":{"rendered":"N50m debt: Court, police seize Andy Uba\u2019s cars"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Officials of the Execution Unit of the Federal Capital Territory High Court in Abuja in conjunction with officers of the Nigeria Police Force, on Tuesday reportedly seized vehicles belonging to Senator Andy Uba in his Abuja residence over a N50 million debt resulting from a loan he took from Oranto Petroleum Limited.<\/p>\n<p>It was learnt that\u00a0Uba, a one-time three-day Governor of Anambra State, and a governorship candidate of the All Progressive Congress in the recently concluded<a href=\"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/2022\/08\/19\/lg-elections-osun-lawyer-sues-osiec-speaker-for-contempt\/\"> elections<\/a> in Anambra, is the debtor, in a case instituted against him by Oranto Petroleum.<\/p>\n<p>The seizure of Uba\u2019s property was sequel to the judgment of an Anambra State High Court delivered on March 6, 2017, in a case presided over by Justice Mbonu Nwenyi of the Aguata Judicial Division Ekwulobia.<\/p>\n<p>Oranto Petroleum is a Pan-African oil exploration and production company owned by Nigerian multi-millionaire, Arthur Eze.<\/p>\n<p>The seized Jeep <a href=\"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/2022\/08\/08\/how-ebubeagu-allegedly-injured-10-people-burnt-8-vehicles-18-shops-in-imo-community\/\">vehicles<\/a> were impounded at Uba&#8217;s residence at No. 49 T.Y Danjuma Street, Asokoro, Abuja.<\/p>\n<p>In his ruling, the judge held that Uba as the defendant in the case had not denied receiving the friendly interest-free loan from the plaintiff.<\/p>\n<p>The court further held that, having gone through the statement of defence of the defendant, the defendant had not disclosed any good defence to the suit and in such circumstance the plaintiff was entitled to the judgment.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Officials of the Execution Unit of the Federal Capital Territory High Court in Abuja in conjunction with officers of the Nigeria Police Force, on Tuesday reportedly seized vehicles belonging to Senator Andy Uba in his Abuja residence over a N50 million debt resulting from a loan he took from Oranto Petroleum Limited.
