{"id":212589,"date":"2022-08-25T12:56:38","date_gmt":"2022-08-25T11:56:38","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/?p=212589"},"modified":"2022-08-25T12:56:38","modified_gmt":"2022-08-25T11:56:38","slug":"asuu-reacts-to-parents-proposal-to-pay-n10000-per-session-to-end-prolonged-strike","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/2022\/08\/25\/asuu-reacts-to-parents-proposal-to-pay-n10000-per-session-to-end-prolonged-strike\/","title":{"rendered":"ASUU reacts to parents\u2019 proposal to pay N10,000 per session to end prolonged strike"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The Academic Staff Union of Universities, ASUU, has rejected<\/p>\n<p>The proposal by the National Parent-Teacher Association of Nigeria to pay the union a minimum of N10,000 per parent in every academic section has been rejected.<\/p>\n<p>NAPTAN\u2019s Public Relations Officer, Dr. Ademola Ekundayo, said the proposal was made in an effort to end the lingering industrial action and to aid the Federal Government to meet ASUU\u2019s demands.<\/p>\n<p>Rejecting the proposal, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/2022\/08\/25\/asuu-identifies-two-conditions-thatll-end-strike-quickly\/\">ASUU\u2019s National President,<\/a> Professor Emmanuel Osodeke while appearing on Arise Television on Thursday called on the association to rather mount more pressure on the FG.<\/p>\n<p>He said, \u201cI think what this association should be doing is to tell the government to perform its function. They should put pressure on the government to use Nigerians\u2019 money to fund education as it is done in other countries.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe can\u2019t be calling ourselves the giant of Africa and we are the worst in education. You see students from Nigeria going to Ghana, Benin Republic, Togo, and other small countries to study but nobody from these countries are coming to Nigeria to study.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cSo they should add to the pressure coming from ASUU to ensure that the government prioritize education.
