{"id":21327,"date":"2021-04-14T05:50:55","date_gmt":"2021-04-14T04:50:55","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/?p=21327"},"modified":"2021-04-14T05:50:55","modified_gmt":"2021-04-14T04:50:55","slug":"fg-to-introduce-emergency-ambulance-services","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/2021\/04\/14\/fg-to-introduce-emergency-ambulance-services\/","title":{"rendered":"FG to introduce emergency ambulance services"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The federal government has disclosed that it plans to introduce a National Emergency Medical Service and Ambulance System (NEMSAS) to support access to urgent quality healthcare.<\/p>\n<p>This was disclosed by the Minister of Health, Osagie Ehanire at the\u00a02021 first quarterly meeting of the Nigeria Reproductive, Maternal Newborn, Child, Adolescent and Elderly Health Plus Nutrition (RMNCAEH+N), held on Tuesday, in Abuja.<\/p>\n<p>Noting that NEMSAS could reduce mortality by 50 percent, Ehanire\u00a0said the emergency service will facilitate access to first aid and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/2021\/04\/08\/resident-doctors-pledge-to-continue-strike-accuse-government-of-insincerity\/\">healthcare<\/a> in life-threatening situations.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe federal government is poised to launch the National Emergency Medical Service and Ambulance System to provide prompt and efficient emergency health access to the people,\u201d the minister said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt will involve prompt response to medical distress calls of all types with first responders, transfer to facilities, assured first aid at point of care at no immediate user cost.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The minister also noted that different factors \u2014 including lack of functional and affordable health centres \u2014 contribute to negatively affecting people\u2019s wellbeing.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIgnorance of the benefits of modern health services and culturally determined gender role definitions, particularly impact the wellbeing of females and children in some communities,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe deleterious practices inevitably increase susceptibility to infections, slow down recovery from illness, and contribute to preventable morbidity and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/2021\/03\/25\/covid-19-group-clears-air-on-oxford-astrazeneca-vaccine-urges-citizens-to-support-npcdas-efforts\/\">mortality<\/a> rates, especially among women children and the elderly.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>He added that there is a need to\u00a0strengthen engagement with media institutions and improve strategic communication tools.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The federal government has disclosed that it plans to introduce a National Emergency Medical Service and Ambulance System (NEMSAS) to support access to urgent quality healthcare.
