{"id":213509,"date":"2022-08-30T13:28:30","date_gmt":"2022-08-30T12:28:30","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/?p=213509"},"modified":"2022-08-30T13:28:30","modified_gmt":"2022-08-30T12:28:30","slug":"nnpc-122-culprits-in-custody-for-oil-theft","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/2022\/08\/30\/nnpc-122-culprits-in-custody-for-oil-theft\/","title":{"rendered":"NNPC: 122 culprits in custody for oil theft"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Mele Kyari, the Group Chief Executive Officer of the Nigeria National Petroleum Company has disclosed that\u00a0122 persons have been arrested for oil theft between April and August 2022.<\/p>\n<p>He also disclosed that government operatives have discovered at least 295 illegal connections tethered to a 200km stretch of pipeline.<\/p>\n<p>He said he has impeded the production capacity of the company across several fronts.<\/p>\n<p>This was disclosed on Tuesday by Kyari\u00a0at the 49th Session of the State House Briefing organised by the Presidential Communications Team, at the Presidential Villa, Abuja.<\/p>\n<p>The Group CEO also noted that security operatives discovered 344 illegal oil reservoirs, 355 cooking pots, 759 metal tanks, 37 trucks, 450 boats and 179 holding boxes used by vandals to perform their nefarious activities in the oil-producing regions of the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/2022\/05\/28\/court-restrains-fg-from-issuing-licences-for-marginal-oilfields-in-niger-delta\/\">Niger Delta<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Kyari, however, argued that it is not the NNPC\u2019s responsibility to announce the names of those arrested.<\/p>\n<p>While lamenting that oil theft robs the country of at least 700 barrels per day, Kyari said the gravest consequence is the degradation of the Niger Delta environment.<\/p>\n<p>He noted that properties seized from Vandals were burned to disable them from resuming operations.<\/p>\n<p>Fielding questions on the high cost of fuel importation, the Group CEO revealed that the country will be PMS sufficient by mid-2023.<\/p>\n<p>He said the Dangote <a href=\"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/2022\/08\/29\/nscdc-arrests-one-foils-pipeline-vandalism-in-c-river\/\">Oil Refinery<\/a> will produce at least 50 million barrels per day when it begins operations next year, making it unnecessary to import Premium Motor Spirit.<\/p>\n<p>On NNPC shares, Kyari revealed that the company will be IPO-ready by the middle of 2023.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Mele Kyari, the Group Chief Executive Officer of the Nigeria National Petroleum Company has disclosed that\u00a0122 persons have been arrested for oil theft between April and August 2022.
