In a remote district of western Uganda on Wednesday, a landslide claimed the lives of at least 15 people, including women and children.<\/p>\n

Irene Nakasiita, a spokeswoman for the International Red Cross, informed the media that the landslide happened in the town of Kasese near the border with the Democratic Republic of the Congo following a significant downpour<\/a>.<\/p>\n

She continued by mentioning the numerous destroyed homes and the numerous people listed as missing.<\/p>\n

Nakasiita said: \u201c15 bodies have been recovered now. Majority are women and children. Response action teams are still on the ground and the rescue mission is still ongoing.\u201d<\/p>\n

She said the exact number of missing was not known, adding that six people were injured and had been taken to hospital.<\/p>\n

Grisly photographs shared by the Red Cross showed some bodies stuck under collapsed houses, and at least one body carried away by the fast-flowing water<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Heavy rains in the neighbouring district of Bundibugyo killed three people last Friday and wounded several others.<\/p>\n

At least 22 people were killed in the eastern Ugandan town of Mbale after flash floods hit the town at the end of July, leading to mudslides that inflicted widespread damage and left hundreds of residents homeless.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
