{"id":2152,"date":"2021-03-01T12:56:24","date_gmt":"2021-03-01T11:56:24","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/?p=2152"},"modified":"2021-03-01T12:56:24","modified_gmt":"2021-03-01T11:56:24","slug":"hushpuppi-hires-former-government-lawyer-as-defence-counsel","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/2021\/03\/01\/hushpuppi-hires-former-government-lawyer-as-defence-counsel\/","title":{"rendered":"Hushpuppi hires former government lawyer as defence counsel"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>A top-rated criminal defence lawyer, Loius Shapiro has been hired by Ramon Abass also known as Hushpuppi\u00a0to represent him in his trial in the United States where he is facing fraud-related and money laundering charges.<\/p>\n<p>Hushpuppi hired Shapiro after top Chicago lawyer Gal Pissetzky and California-based criminal defence lawyer Vicki Podberesky, withdrew their services as his attorneys.<\/p>\n<p>The duo had accused the former Instagram celebrity of refusing to communicate to them.<\/p>\n<p>After a Judge granted their withdrawal from the case on February 22, a\u00a0request seeking the approval of Mr Shapiro as <a href=\"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/2021\/02\/20\/fbi-hushpuppi-linked-to-north-korean-bank-robbers-and-money-launderers\/\">Hushpuppi&#8217;s<\/a> new defence counsel was granted on February 25.<\/p>\n<p>According to Premium Times,\u00a0Mr Shapiro who earned his law degree from the Benjamin N. Cardozo School of Law, began his career with the New York State Attorney General, Elliot Spitzer.<\/p>\n<p>He also worked at several agencies including Legal Aid Society\u2019s Immigration Detainee Unit and clerked for the federal public defenders office in Los Angeles.<\/p>\n<p>Mr Shapiro, a certified criminal law specialist by the State Bar of California, serves as a Criminal Justice Act Federal Trial Panel attorney for the Central District of California.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>A top-rated criminal defence lawyer, Loius Shapiro has been hired by Ramon Abass also known as Hushpuppi\u00a0to represent him in his trial in the United States where he is facing fraud-related and money laundering charges.
