{"id":21550,"date":"2021-04-14T15:01:05","date_gmt":"2021-04-14T14:01:05","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/?p=21550"},"modified":"2021-04-14T15:01:05","modified_gmt":"2021-04-14T14:01:05","slug":"bbog-over-20-parents-of-chibok-girls-have-died-from-waiting","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/2021\/04\/14\/bbog-over-20-parents-of-chibok-girls-have-died-from-waiting\/","title":{"rendered":"BBOG: Over 20 parents of Chibok girls have died from waiting"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Strategic team member of the Bring Back Our Girls (BBOG), Allen Manasseh has disclosed that over 20 parents of the Chibok girls have died from the health complications induced by the protracted wait for the return of their children.<\/p>\n<p>Recall that 276 school girls of Government Girls&#8217; Secondary School (GGSS) Chibok, Borno in April 2014\u00a0were abducted by Boko Haram insurgents.<\/p>\n<p>The girls were preparing for their final examinations when the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/2021\/04\/12\/insurgents-attack-humanitarian-facilities-loot-warehouses-raze-buildings-in-borno\/\">insurgents<\/a> attacked in the middle of the night and abducted them.<\/p>\n<p>Seven years later, 112 of the girls are still missing.<\/p>\n<p>Manasseh in a chat with Arise TV on Wednesday said\u00a0over 20 parents have died while waiting anxiously for the missing girls.<\/p>\n<p>He accused the government of doing the minimum to address the concerns of the parents, demanding that the matter be moved to the office of the vice-president.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe level of engagement with the parents should change; there\u2019s no date on the issue of rescue. We have over 20 parents that died already from blood pressure-related complications; renal failure as a result of blood pressure. 20 plus parents died, nothing happened,\u201d Manasseh said.<\/p>\n<p>The level of engagement to the Chibok parents is nothing to write home about. The Chibok girls issue was domiciled in the ministry of women affairs. What authority or administrative function does the minister of women affairs have to do with security, rescue, or anything about the Chibok girls. The ministry can support the Chibok parents in terms of welfare but this issue is more critical and it should be domiciled in at least the office of vice-president. That\u2019s what we asked for.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt was domiciled in the office of women affairs and nobody knows what\u2019s happening there.
